Summertime and the livin' is...

Memorial Day 2011
The sun is warm in the clear morning sky.
"Come out, come out!" it beckons.
I do.
A little work before a lot of play.

The sun is hot in the bright noon sky.
"Come in, come in!" they call.
We do.
A festive way to start the fun.

The water is clear in the glorious pool.
"Let's go, let's go!" he cries.
They do.

Splash and chat and then we eat.

The beer is cold on this blistering day.
"Drink up, drink up!" she cheers
I do.
We ease into the afternoon.

The grass is lush on this beautiful day.
"Go play! Go swing!" she says.
They do.

Giggles and shouting..."Watch us! Look!"

The margarita lounges in the sizzling sun.
"Sit. Rest. Talk..." it croons.
I do.

Sweet and salty. Summertime gold.

The fun keeps on- Michigan style.
"Let me try!"  "Look what I found!" all around
They do.
and he does.
and he does.
and he does.
and she does, too.
This...this is it.
Don't let it pass you by!

  1. I heart your poem! Or is it a limerick....?
Plus that margarita looks amazing! It's been sweltering here and a little sweet and salty would definitely help with the heat...as I type this at 8:30am. Hey, 5 o'clock somewhere right?

  9. What a great day! I want one of each of those drinks, in that order would be just perfect. They all looked so delicious and refreshing and by refreshing I mean full of alcohol and yet, still refreshing.

  10. You summarized "summertime" so well with your words and images. Nothing like fun, family and a cold one.

  12. So true. This is not the time for planning, this is the time for being. Our alcohol consumption has definitely gone up at the cabin as we move into summer. You know, because why not? And this is why I love summer. Mmmmm, Molson. ;)

  13. What a great post! And thanks for making me realize how much I miss having a nice cold beer on warm sunny day. :) Here in PA, you can't buy beer in the grocery stores. You have to get it at a beer distributor and then you can only buy it a case at a time. We aren't big beer drinkers so getting it a case at a time is a bit much for us. A six pack every now and then would be lovely though! As a result, we haven't had beer since we left California over a year ago. Wow!! Maybe I should throw a party and invite a bunch of beer drinkers!! LOL!! Looks like you had a great weekend.

    Many blessings,
    Rosann
