My Heart is out of my Larynx- 2 Day Redux

Where do I even start?  Right now I'm typing on my like-new laptop which, a mere two days ago, just moments after publishing my last blog post, died.  It was dead, my friends.  Okay, not dead.  Unusable, though.  The screen?  It was black.  There was a little white cursor and nothing else and my frail little heart jumped from its customary place to the very uncomfortable region of my larynx.

If you've ever had your heart in your larynx, you'll know why it has been hard for me to function the last two days.

But now it's back and it's totally working and we have an external hard drive to back up all our files (no, I did NOT have one before.  Because I like to live on the edge like that.  Not really.  Hence the heart "issue".)

And did I mention that we also started our very first year of homeschooling EVER yesterday?

Holy mackeral, folks.  I'm exhausted.  All you teachers out there, props to you and your seemingly unending supply of energy.  I was only teaching two and a half people and you teach...20? 30?  More?  If you do not fall into a heap of sleeping floppiness the second you walk in the door every day, tell me your secret this instant.

Anyway, I do plan on boring you with a whole rundown on all the fun we've been having, but for now, as I'm just easing back into having real contact with the webby world and it's way past time to start dinner, I will tell you that our eldest has ALREADY lost a real library book.

And my youngest ate an entire stick of chalk.

But look.  On the first day of the new school year, as the school bus cruised past our house, past the very picture window they were looking out of, this is what my kids were doing.
So the book and the chalk (and the markers and the mess) are a price I'm willing to pay.

  1. Adorable! I love that they were lovin' on each other and snuggling! That's the ideal world, the world they need to be living and learning in.

Glad your laptop is back and that no horrible or permanent disasters befell it. Let me tell you when that happens it's very, very sad :)

  3. Chalk = Tums. No worries.

Um, I am so tired now I want to cry. That's how this teacher does it. No secrets to share. I wish!

  4. School started yesterday. Today's commute home, normally about 40 mins, took two hours thanks to flooding, traffic, etc. etc.

My secret? My son is making dinner!

  15. Yes, I am insanely exhausted!! I made the final decision to homeschool like, you know, less than a week before the first day of public school started. And no, I'm not usually a particularly impulsive person. It took me a while to finally say OUT LOUD that I was thinking about homeschooling and once I did (and once my husband and son both agreed)... well, my logical, let's make lists and do things side took over and that's what I did. Made lists and did things (not that I was actually READY to start his week, but we're starting anyway, lol). Then my emotional side caught up and was like, WTF did you just dooooooo?!? LOL. So yeah, it's been a bit of an emotional roller coaster. :)

  16. Great picture of the kids! I am in complete awe that you are homeschooling! I could never do it (working full time was a deterrent)! Even if I wasn't working, I still wouldn't have the patience or energy (or the smarts)!

So, good for you, and your lucky, lucky kids!

BTW: I LOVE looking to the left of the screen and seeing the New Jerusalem Workshop button there! You are so wonderful!

  21. Granted, I'm pregnant, but by lunch I am so thoroughly exhausted that I could collapse. About the same as when I taught(AT a school)-- but I did make it through a whole day. My problem is I get so concerned and bogged down about the three r's getting done, that that takes the whole morning, then there's nothing left for the afternoon. Gratefully, we have a big yard and many educational toys that help with that.

  22. She ATE the chalk? I can't imagine getting the first bite choked down, let alone the entire stick! This is my first time visiting your blog, and so far, I'm charmed by your charm and your children. So cute. I know nothing about home schooling, but I have a feeling you are going to have quite a few awesome stories to tell. :-)
