Job Interview- take 2

For those of you who follow me on twitter or hang out on the blog's facebook page, you probably know that Tommy had another interview this morning.  Thank you, everyone, for all your prayers and sweet words.  Knowing all of you are out there pulling for us is just so stinking uplifting.  You guys are amazing!

The job this time (as opposed to last time) is a lot more serious.  Not serious as in "no one has fun" but serious as in "there is a lot of real stuff that needs to be done and you're the only guy who's gonna do it".  His interview panel wasn't cracking jokes or reading from a script.  They were ALL business.  Which means this would definitely be a better job for him, but also means you walk away hoping you were the caliber of person they were hoping to meet.  Because those business folk are real good at the poker face, I tell ya what.

Apparently they chose just four candidates to interview for this position and Tommy was one of them.  So that right there is a bit of a victory.  They also asked him at the end how far his commute would be and were happy he said that we'd be willing to move for the right job.  And then one lady said "If we offered you the job, now that you know more about it, would you accept?" to which he replied "Absolutely".  The boy likes a challenge and this job would put all his best skills to good use.

Okay, maybe not his woodworking skills, but you can't have it all, can you?

So, we're not sure how to feel.  He wants this job more than he wanted the last one, but he feels less sure about the interview experience.  But he didn't get that last job, so I guess that should tell us something about how you "feel about the interview experience".

The panel did tell him that all of their interviews are this week and then they have two weeks to select candidates for a second interview with the actual Secretary of State.  Until then, we wait.  And hope and pray.  And fix the bedroom.  And grow a baby.

And in case you've forgotten what a great daddy he is, this is how he spent New Year's Eve:
Building a play house with his girls using leftover construction materials in our pole barn.  Cecilia got her first lesson in hammer usage.  So, so precious they are!

  1. I'm not only asking God to keep your beautiful family in His hands, but also to send an Angel of Peace to your house during this next round of "Hurry up and wait".

  2. Dwija: Your spirit is so great; life doesn't offer us guarantees and instead of moping or worrying, you are forging ahead, growing a baby, building a playhouse. I love it! I need a little of that juice, girl!

  3. Oh wow I totally know what you mean! Doug just got through a series of similar interviews FOUR. Months. Ago... and got the job! But only after lots and lots of poker faced people and even more waiting. It is SO tough out there for our valiant hubbies, it breaks my heart. Bless you a zillion x over, you are such an amazing wife & mommy.

You know I am pregnant too and the strain of poordome feels a whole lot more ...*potent* to me, being with child. We don't even have one diaper yet!! But whoa nelly there is a whole lotta faith goin on 'round these parts! And the good Lord ALWAYS holds us closer when we're getting our proverbial tushies warmed by the refiner's fire! ;D

Suffice it to say, I'm just so happy that you have such great faith and that your lives are built upon such the only Foundation that can withstand all the crumbling rocks of life. Xoxoxoxo I love you tons girl, hang in there!!!!

  4. *upon THE only foundation...* and is it just me, or did that "refiner's fire/burnt tushy" comment kind of give a strange visual? ;D Haha maybe I shouldn't comment with my phone!!

  5. Hang in there! Good things happen to those who wait...

And the playhouse will be so much fun when it warms up around here!

  6. Oh my goodness, E. 4 months???? I'm so, so happy to hear he got the job. Growing a baby during a lean time is definitely a challenge, but I do find that it helps me feel even closer to Mary, how she might have felt to be in her condition in those conditions. She always holds my hand through labor, but this time she's holding it through my pregnancy too!

  7. Dwija, when he said he would be willing to move, is that because you guys would have to move?

  8. Holy moly. Prayers, well wishes, virtual hugs.

  9. We wouldn't HAVE to move. It's about an hour on a good day each way. If the roads are bad (and they often are here) it would take longer. So we could stay here, see how the family was handling it, and then decide down the road what to do.

He told them we'd be willing to move because in this part of the state, and hour is a LONG commute. Employers are often nervous about hiring people who live too far away because of burnout and/or the likelihood that they'll show up late to work on a regular basis. Wanted to assure them that a good job is the priority right now.

  10. Wowza - prayers, prayers, prayers!

  11. Well, I guess moving before the baby gets here would be a bit better than after... I think we would all miss your house and land stories.

  12. Don't worry! If we move, it'll be to another house with land. We're never going back suburban, I can promise you that :)

  13. I so hope he gets this one. I just don't think there's any way to guess what these people are really thinking when you sit before one of those panel thingies, do you?

I would be great if we did thought then we'd always get the job. :)

  14. Hang in there. It's just a matter of time before he finds a job. I know with you being pregnant you are wanting him to find one sooner then later. Just ask yourself if you think he will go the rest of his life unemployed? Probably not. You two (and your children) will come through this stronger and success will be so much sweeter.
My hubby and I have been in similar situations in our 23 years of marriage. We found that we had no other choice then to put our trust and faith in God. Sure enough..everything worked out in the end.

  15. Praying so hard, Dweej. Good things are in store for you, I am very sure of it.
The whole interviewing thing is ridonkulous.
Kyle was contacted by a headhunter the first week he was in Cleveland (1st week of Sept!), has been interviewing, etc with the company every since and they say that they are finally ready to present an offer this week or next week. For us, it's just nerve-wracking, but for you guys I can imagine it's full-on panic-mode.

  16. Praying for you guys. No matter what, God has a plan in all of this. My hubby had his interview today also. He was gone for more than 3 hours. Sounds promising, but they seem to be hung up on money. Because we moved from Southern California where he was making twice as much as what they are willing to pay. We should know one way or the other within a week.

  17. I live outside of DC and Baltimore, so driving an hour for work is so normal.
Well, whatever happens, I wish you the best and send more prayers your way!

  18. Oh, I am sending you and your family all the best thoughts for this. That interview process sounds *intense*!

  19. Prayer that if this is the right job he gets it.

Loved the picture of him and the girls building the playhouse.

Thank you for mentioning that bit about Mary holding your hand during labor. I always relate to her riding that donkey at 9 months pregnant....it makes me hurt just thinking about it but it never occured to me to ask her to hold my hand when I have the c-section in a couple more months.

  20. Good Luck! Crossing my fingers & toes for your family!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh good luck to you and Tommy, Dweej!!!

  22. I firmly believe that this is OUR year...and I think our friend JC agrees. Gabe starts his new job tomorrow (And we know all about the waiting... so I pray it goes by fast and you hear sooner than later) and I am certain you will be saying the same about Tommy too... and then we can go about giving birth to babies in the peace that comes with financial stability. Amen.

  23. Oh my gosh - mine is a C-section too in 2 1/2 monts so Ann please pass the word to dear Mary that (thanks to Dweej's sweet suggestion) I will be needing her to hold my hand too! I've done birth both ways - all natural for 48 hrs straight labor, and C-section... and yes BOTH constitute asking for Her help.

And my dearest Dweej, yep 4 months. The worst part is, it is actually a 2nd part-time job because I had to quit working for good & our insurance takes almost everything he makes at the 1st job.

We have ONLY made it thru faith, prayer and incredible Samaritans working His magic in our lives. With much thanks to you for always being such an INCREDIBLE example!!! Wish I could tell you how many times I've turned to your heavenly writing for courage and a shoulder to lean on. I love you!!!!

  24. Oops sorry comment #4 :)
Oh and the "whole hour" :o commute thing is hilarious! They get the same way here in UT. Makes you want to take them through just ONE day in the life back when we drove all over SoCal with nary a thought! One hour is cake! Hahaha

  25. Good vibes and prayers coming your way! What a tense process waiting is. Cheers!

  27. Praying that God's will is done for your family with this second job possibility.

My eldest daughter works for the Minnesota Secretary of State. If only you lived in Minnesota...great place to work.
