7 Quick Takes: Swagger Rip-Off

(1)
I have such great friends.  Cari ordered a custom rosary for my sweet baby Mary from Melanie of Trendy Traditions in honor of her baptism .  Look!  So cute!

(2)
And then Melanie, being kind and generous and very observant about my favorite color (schneaky, schneaky clever), decided to make one for me too.  Happy day!

And don't forget the gift boxes.  Cute, cute, fabulous boxes...

Squee!  Trendy Traditions.  Do it.

(3)
Speaking of friends, the other day a friend shared this Parents Rap video on facebook, and it was good...but a complete and total rip-off of Toyota's Swagger Wagon video from a few years ago.  I mean just watch them and see.

Rip off, right?  Pretty lame. But the good news is dump.com, which I had never heard of.  You can just click on "random video" above the one you're watching and it'll show you some sort of spectacular thing that exists out in internet land?   Sweet!  There are LOTS of spectacular things in internet land!

(4)
Which, um, might help to explain why I've feeling so overwhelmed lately?  Yeah.  Good job, dweej.  Also, "dump" is a terrible name for a website.  Terrible.

(5)
Anyway, no pointless video hopping for me today, no sir.  As soon as I'm done with this and I bother to get dressed and I put away our laundry and then make lunch and the girls away their laundry and I throw in a new load to be washed and they clean up the play room and...STOP!  I'm telling myself to stop.  Just stop.  We're going to sort through some homeschooling books.  We're going to make a schedule-ish.  We're going to take it easy and not freak out and not try and shine any silver or wipe any baseboards.  I promise.

(6)
Unrelated- have any of you ever taken your kids, specifically babies, to a chiropractor?  Little baby Mary seems to have sustained a bit of birth trauma seeing as she came out face first and at an angle and all and she pretty much can't turn her head to the right and when I make it go that way, she immediately pops it back.  Poor thing.  So I'd like to do what I can to help her but I'm not sure exactly what that is.  If you've had experience with this kind of thing, will you chatter at me?  Muchas gracias!

(7)
Ugh!  I was going to close with a totally pointless, way too long video of two of my kids doing a weather report with a frog but blogger won't upload and I don't have the energy to upload it to YouTube first because remember that thing about being overwhelmed and getting my house in order and putting us on a schedule?  It starts today!  So just imagine it.  I swear it's super cute.

  1. Yes to taking the baby to a chiro. I've done it and it's wonderful! Gonna take Will cuz his head tilts to the left... a LOT.

  2. Those rosaries are absolutely gorgeous. Oh my goodness...
Praying you get everything organized and a semblance of normal returns. Love you guys!

  3. heck yes, get your baby to a chiropractor! the earlier it's fixed, the better. if you can possibly find an activator chiropractor (go to activator.com), i'd recommend that - they're super gentle.

  4. Awesome rosaries. Yes to chiro. Check to see if there is a ICPA chiro local to you.

  5. I've never heard of chiropractors for babies! Makes perfect sense. You'll have to report back and let us know how it goes.

  6. Schedule-ish. Love that. I'm going to make a schedule-ish for the year! That is so much less intimidating than a schedule. I don't do schedules very well.

  7. She could have torticolis. It isn't uncommon, and is a shortening of one of the muscles that turns the head. As a physical therapist I treated it quite successfully with massage, stretching and activities to get the baby to try to look in the restricted direction. Just a heads up. I am not as familiar with chiro, but with simple treatments this can be resolved, and the sooner the better.

  8. Oh hope Mary will be okay! Do get her checked out, no harm in that yes?

  9. We took Lotus to the chiro when she was less than 2 months. She had torticolis and wasn't nursing properly on the left side. I hadn't even TOLD the dr. that, but he held her, felt her neck, and said, "She's not nursing properly on the left side, is she?"
Did some chiro magic on her, and viola! fixed! After one session!

When I see you, I'll tell you my OTHER chiro story, featuring my friend Jen who is THINK may be a voodoo priestess (hi Jen!), but it's too long to type here and I'm hungry.

Summary- yes chiro, glad you liked the rosaries, Melanie is AWESOME for making you one, too!

  10. No but I want to go to a chiropractor. I have a friend who also swears by acupuncture! She said, it redirects blood flow in your body and can heal so many things! Good luck! Also bravo on cutting back on blogging! Sometimes you have to cut back somewhere. Now please respond to this comment immediately. JK

  11. My aunt in-law is a chiropractor and she says she does babies all the time and they love it. Some even swear that it can help solve sleep problems when they're tiny. I say go for it!

  12. I've taken two of mine to the chiro within the first month and I think it really helped them both. I swear the chiro cured my first of colic, it was like day and night after going to the chiro once!

  13. absolutely great experience taking Colette to a chiro when she was just a week or two old (also just one session). just be sure to ask them specifically how often they treat infants... you need someone who is experienced with infant adjustments. the Activator is great, but the chiro who did Colette's adjustment used very gentle direct manual pressure. you could tell she was immediately more comfortable afterward.

  14. yes, absolutely yes! If the spine or neck are mis-aligned at all, many things are affected.

  15. Yes- definitely try a chiropractor! My husband is a chiropractor and he always examines our children after they are born, just to make sure everything's OK. It sounds like something that a chiro might be able to help, so it's worth a try at least!

  16. I agree with Renee. I was thinking torticolis right away.
The rosaries are so lovely. I'm totally buying some!

  17. I've taken two of mine to the chiro as newborns but more for fussiness issues. It was a little bit scary but they barely noticed it. Obviously make sure the chiro knows babies. There wasn't a huge difference, unfortunately, but it sounds like it could really help Mary. Come to think of it...maybe I should take Luke in. Something is off with him and he's just not sleeping and I'm willing to try anything.

Oh, and I think the newer rap is better even if it is ripped off. Have fun scheduling!! You will feel so good when you're done!

  18. Kellie, over at http://kandjstaats.blogspot.com/ is having the same problem with her son Jackson...she might be able to provide some advice!

  19. My baby preferred to look only to the right for quite a while. The pediatrician suggested holding him so that he had to turn his head that way in order to nurse (from either side). The other suggestion was to put all the interesting toys in the direction he preferred not to look. If Mary likes to interact with the other kids ask them to all sit on her right side.

  20. Yes. Baby to chiropractor excellent! My darlings were adjusted hours after birth! Easy Peasy.

  21. My husband is a chiropractor. He sees and adjusts lots of babies and children, including our own. The technique whether it be manual or activator is super super gentle and very effective. Absolutely recommend it. Our niece did what your are describing with your daughter and after one adjustment she IMMEDIATELY started turning her head that direction. She did need further adjustments to maintain the correction but the initial result was remarkable. She was 3 months at the time and the issue had been there since birth which may be why it took a bit longer to correct. She was a c-section birth which can be harder on their necks as well as posterior positions etc. Good luck!

  22. I echo everyone else in urging you to take her to a chiro. I highly recommend looking for a Palmer grad, they also tend to be of the gentler variety, but even better is ask around. Word of mouth will point you in the right direction.

Lol about the Parent Rap video! I actually put it on my blog a few days ago because it made me laugh and I really needed a laugh that day. Incidentally it really reminded me of the swagger wagon videos, which I briefly considered looking for to see if it was the same people, then decided I was too lazy to look it up and it was funny anyway. Total homage to the swagger wagon, tho, for sure.

good luck with the schedule-ish, we are still writing out the House Rules and only just started talking about our curriculum today.

  23. I just found your blog and now I am totally stalking it! Love it! Also love the rosaries! And, thank you, someone else who recognizes the video as a total rip off of Swagger Wagon!

  24. Prayers for Mary's little head turning situation. The Rosary is lovely!

  25. Thank you for asking about the chiropractor, because I've been wondering about whether I should take my Mary to see my chiropractor...I've been seeing him for seven years, and he's helped me out a lot and I know he adjusts babies all the time, but still...she's only two weeks old and she's my first baby and it seems a little scary...but I know how much it would probably benefit her and it reassures me to see the positive feedback about it. And I definitely recommend you going too! My back (I have slight scoliosis, which has caused me chronic pain since I was a teenager) surprisingly hadn't been bothering me too horribly much since giving birth, but when I went to the chiropractor this past week he still got some amazing cracks out of it, and getting back in alignment really does help with everything...healing, etc. Good luck to both you and Mary getting (literally) straightened out!

  26. Chiro's and babies make me nervous. It sounds like torticollis which my son had. I had to take him to PT. He is 9 and totally fine now. :D

    ReplyDelete
  27. I had a chiropractor friend adjust my oldest when she was about a month old - he says that all newborns should be adjusted because of the weird positions they get stuck in in the womb and because of the pressure of birth. I will admit that it totally freaked me out, but it seemed to really help her fussiness.

  28. All my babies favored one side and saw chiropractors. I recommend finding an icpa one as well- just google it to find one near you. Chiropractors have done wonders for us and 'cured' my colicky child :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. I swear by the chiro - and I see that it's mostly unanimous. All mine have been since they were babies. And we still go frequently for sports-related things. My hubby and I love it, too. Got me through all my pregnancies with very little aches and pains.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have taken several of my babies to the chiro; it's very gentle. Chiro on babies is like pushing buttons - very different than grownups.

(And I must note, since apparently you are my twin--except my house costed a lot more than yours--that Silas also has neck issues. His is right torticollis. The last three of my babies have all had it, probably due to positioning in utero. Sorry if that's TMI!)

  31. Beautiful rosaries! I'm definitely checking that site out! Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  32. There's also craniosacral massage, which can help correct physical things that happened at birth. Someone who is an expert on craniosacral or chiro with infants would know how gentle to be! Hope you find the right practitioner!
