A Sabbatical and Something Super Important

(This 1st part really isn't that important. I just talk too much)

Monday is a big day.  BIG DAY! Tommy starts his new job, y'all.  Big day. I even ironed four whole shirts for him in my excitement.  Big. Day.

I'll be expecting my wife-of-the-year award in the mail, thankyouverymuch.

Then I got to thinking and realized that I've been waiting for this day to arrive along with him, with a ridiculous, subconscious, fool idea that somehow everything is magically going to change.  Like, I'm magically going to be a better housekeeper and I'll magically get all the kids' schoolwork corrected on time every week and meal plans will magically write themselves and all the required ingredients for said meal plans will magically appear in my pantry.  All because the new job, the new job that has nothing to do with me whatsoever, is starting.

Voice of reason over here, folks.

I want a fresh start.  I've been imagining a fresh start.  But everything for me is really just...you know...gonna be the same.  Which is fine!  I mean really, life is good.  But if I'm totally honest, I'm not doing the best I can.  I like to procrastinate.  I only really do anything at the last minute.  So I've been procrastinating "doing better" until the new job starts.  Because that makes sense?  Yeah...

Anyway, where am I going with all of this?

Doing better.  If I want to do better, apparently I actually need to DO BETTER.  If I want a fresh start, I'm going to have to actually START FRESH. And the only way I can think to do that is to force myself to take an itty-bitty sabbatical from the want-to-dos until I can get all my have-to-dos and ought-to-dos in order.

I'm serious, you guys.  This time I'm really serious.  Like, exercise and planning meals and keeping things cleaned and organized; daily prayer, schooling under control, not falling down the rabbit hole of the interwebz and all that good stuff.

So, a one week break from the online life.

Ack!  It hurts to even say it!  But I am for real, Ms. Jackson.  Sunday through Saturday.  I'll still check my email and do the work I've committed to doing (those are part of the have-to and ought-to, after all), but no facebook (sob!) or the twitter (sob! sob!) or the pinning and the repinning (sob! sob! sob!) or posting and reading here in bloggy land (sob! sob! sob! sob!).

Ugh.  It's really gonna suck, isn't it?

No.  No, I can't talk like that.  It's gonna be great!  Really.  It will be.  And if it isn't, I can write a whole post about how fresh starts and doing better are not at what they're cracked up to be and really what you should do is try and spend your whole day online with brief breaks to throw food at your children.  We'll see which way it goes.

(This 2nd part really IS important, so even if you skipped all the above yammering, read this)

In the meantime, and totally unrelated, Kara and her family are in the process of adopting this precious little boy and could really use our prayers and support.

Isn't he just the mostest adorablest???
You can take a gander at their announcement here.  They're even doing an awesome Halloween auction on their fb page AND you can enter to win and iPad (yes, a real one) and all sorts of other fab prizes here which they're giving away to raise additional funds, both super fantastic ideas and I just want to high-five them all over the place because of it. But the Halloween auction ends MONDAY so quicky quicky quick like go get some costumes for your kids, okay?  Okay.

Gosh, he really needs to be home with is family.  Just look at his sweet face. Let's help him get home!

  3. Don't we all need to work on those things?! I am itching for an Internet break, but with all this fundraising, it's not happening anytime soon.

Thank you so much for featuring my boy. I want nothing more than to have him home and the exposure definitely helps. Hugs!!!

  5. Nooo!!! Okay, fine. One week. Hope you get everything you need to get together all together! It was pretty freeing being on vacation and detached for a while!

  6. we will miss you! Seriously I was thinking of doing the same. I need to finish cleaning out closets and cleaning out the toy bins to get ready for the holidays and do some other things, but whenever I have free time I head to my computer. I remember in grade school they had this thing and we would get shirts, etc. It was called NO TV week and the shirts had a similar logo to MTV except it was NTV :) reminds me of that. Congrats to your husband and that little boy is the sweetest, I will head over there.

  9. Dwija, you are for REAL! Never meant to make your readers cry...

I hope you have a refreshing sabbatical and I'm so excited that your husband is starting at his new job! I completely identify with the "and with this one change will come ALL the changes! Reinventing myself!" vibe and I hope the blogging break will help with that.

  10. As a compulsive fresh starter, I can really relate (and most certainly to the idea of procrastinating until (choose any): school starts, New Year's Day, latest home improvement project is done, my birthday, Wednesday).

I started limiting myself to 1/2 an hour online a day and it really helped; as did taking a good look at my attitude after reading this post, http://www.ncregister.com/blog/simcha-fisher/this-isnt-who-i-really-am, by Simcha Fisher.

    Have a great week!

  11. Good example-ship, Dwija, this could become a national event. Sort of like BEDA only backwards.

  12. You can do this Dweej!!! One week...it will fly by and everything will fall into place, your priorities will be all straightened out, and then you can get back to the fun stuff again.
Hope Tommy's first day at work went well, and that little boy is just the cutest. My prayers are with them.

  13. Are you still sabattacalling? Did you miss my announcement that we are now getting 8 year old triplets in addition to Bethie?

Could this be true?? I guess you won't be able to find out till the 14th. That's gonna be rough.

  15. Very exciting Dwija. I took a summer long sabbatical, and I'm glad I did it. I'm sure you'll feel the same way! In the mean time, prayers for your family as you adjust to the new schedule and I hope you have a fruitful time of starting fresh!
