Barn Warming. Thumb Sucking. {p.h.f.r.}

{pretty}
From our friends' barn warming party last weekend (did you know that's a real thing?  I know!)

For 11 years I've prayed for another thumb-sucking baby.  For 11 years the answer was "not yet".  And now she's finally here.  Glory be to squishy thumb-suckers!  With mohawks!

{funny}

CHARGE!

{real}

My very first thumb-sucker, who is quite enormous and non-thumb-sucky these days, took this fantabulous photo and edited it as part of her art project.  I'm absolutely obsessed, yo.

  3. We heart thumb suckers here too. Xander is one, and he'll be ready to date Mary in about 16 years, dealio?

  4. After two babies who were demonically addicted to pacifiers, and two babies who didn't care for them but WOULDN'T suck their thumbs, when these last two wound up being thumb suckers I felt like I'd won the baby lottery.

  5. OK, if my grandpa was alive, he'd argue that that's not a barn like any he'd ever seen! That's like a house! They should consider renting it out as a summer cottage! It's beautiful! And so is your thumb sucker! Just beautiful! And that picture... awesome! Can you tell my the number of exclamation points that I've had a lot of sugar this morning? That's because I DON'T have a thumb sucker. I forgot to pray for that. So. very. tired.

  6. My sister and I were both thumbsuckers. She had to have braces... and headgear... big time! I only had to have retainers. Even though it's terribly cute, I don't hope I have babies who suck their thumbs.

    1. Oh well, the cuteness is not the thing I love so much as the self-soothing glory. Thumb sucking up to a certain age is not really any worse for teeth than pacifiers and such, so don't stress too much if your babies do end up sucking their thumbs when they're little :)

  7. My one and only thumb sucker just found out that her bad habit caused her to have a pretty bad cross bite and she has years of orthodontic treatment ahead of her. She's only 7. : (

    1. Oh man, bummer! My eldest sucked her thumb until she was 5. She's now 11 and has managed to have the straightest teeth of anyone in the family, so I'm just going to have to hope that the same happens for little fatterson, because there's no way I'm going to interfere with her awesome sleep habits at this stage in our lives :)

    2. My three who are old enough to have their permanent teeth are all doomed for braces due to big teeth. (Two of them never sucked thumbs or pacifiers, so you can't blame that in this case... just giant teeth that don't fit side by side in their mouths.)

  11. That's a BARN???? I want to live in it.

    I sucked my thumb until I was ... ahem ... old enough to have a driver's license, and I am the ONLY one in my family who did not need braces. Take that, nay-sayers! (Well, I feel a bit defensive on this issue because my daughter sucks her thumb and my m-i-l keeps nagging, er, suggesting she stop and I want HER to stop. Have you seen today's gospel? Luke 12:53, last bit. My life.)

  12. That's a really pretty barn. I wonder if I sucked my thumb as a babe...gonna have to ask the mama. One thing I know I did to deserve my braces (8 years come January! W00T! Even my orthodontist is annoyed....) was to clean out my nails with my two bottom front teeth, slowly pushing them apart (gross, I know. My hygiene had fortunately improved in 8 years)

    P.S. I def read that as 'bum warning' instead of 'barn warming'....BIG difference......

  15. Ha -- loved the mama juice/baby juice! It reminds me of a friend's honeymoon picture from Rome (lucky) -- they were at a deli-type place which had grownup juice boxes -- filled with wine! Wherever a Catholic sun doth shine and all that.
    I sucked my thumb until I was 6, and had to have oodles of orthodontic work. None of my children sucked anything, thumbs or binkies (with the exception of one weaning toddler for a few months which doesn't really count), and they're aaaaaaaall going to need spreaders and braces.
    I chalk it up to tiny-mouthed genes, and rejoice in my thumb-sucking baby right along with you! HooRAY for sleep!
