What I Wore Sunday- vol. 2

Remember last weekend when I did my first ever fashion-ish post?  Well, despite the embarrassment inherent in trying to take pictures of myself (do they have classes for this sort of thing?  Tutorials?  Special ladies' maids?  One of each, please) it turned out to be pretty fun.  So....I'm torturing you again!  Yay!

Oh yes indeed, my precious Kohl's boots have too made yet another appearance.  Despite my affection for hyperbole, I was totes not exaggerating when I told y'all that I wear those things every dang day.  On Wednesday, when it was almost 80 degrees?  Yes, I wore them.

Also, these are my first and only pair of skinny jeans ever (Apt. 9, also from Kohl's), even though I am not even close to my skinny goals yet.  And guess what?  I love them.  All these years of naysaying and now I'm doing it!  What's next?  Shopping at Ikea?  Heaven forbid....

Hey, wanna know a tip for wearing pants that have a rise that's too low to properly cover the mama-junk?  Get the tall/long length in your regular size or maybe one size down if they're generously sized and/or have a lot stretch.
Voila!
Longer rise!
Built in tummy shaper and muffin-top smoother!
You're welcome.

Sheer belted tunic with bird print- Mossimo for Target, originally $24.99, bought from Goodwill for $2.99 with tags still attached
Duster length brown cardigan- also Mossimo.  Gifted to me 9 YEARS AGO.  Still rockin' it cheapskate style.

Silpada Bracelet, won from Susan's blog, Sole Searching Mama.  I wear that thing almost as much as my boots!  In. Love.

Silver and garnet chandelier-ish earrings- a Christmas present from the hubby many moons ago.  Still in the regular rotations (another dweej tip: red and turquoise is a fave color combo.  Here I've gone with a burgundy in the earring to complement the darker blue-green of the top)

And finally, so you can have a full appreciation for the tooth "situation" I somehow manage to survive on a daily basis (road to beatification for sure) as well as see the third and final installment of Haircut Craziness 2012, a face photo taken at the last minute, unexpectedly, by my biggest little girl...

Happy Sunday!

  1. Dweej, your hair is totally cute! And I love your beautiful smile. :) You are a perfectly made daughter of God! I really love your outfit, too. I'd do this link-up but I wear pretty much the same two outfits back and forth. Well, really the same pants and two different shirts. haha! When I'm pregnant my fancy wardrobe disappears! Survival is key.

    1. Steph, when I'm prego, I can't even THINK about blogging, what to speak of getting dressed up. Kudos to you for even being coherent!

  2. Super cute! Love the tunic and birds!

Also, I have so many clothes that are still from high school (t-shirt, jeans, etc) that I still wear too. 7 years and counting. :)

  3. Ok - here's where I admit my stalker-ness and tell you that I TOTALLY went to Kohl's on Thursday and bought.those.boots. In brown and black. Because I LOVE them. I cannot get over how comfortable they are. Thank you SO much for the tip. We took my oldest on a college visit this weekend and they were the only shoes I brought. Now, if only I were brave enough to go try the skinny jeans. You might give me the courage.

  4. I think I need to go get those boots, too. I have black boots that I love, but need brown, and those are very cool. I may have to suck it up and buy the skinny jeans, too. My college daughter keeps telling me that this is so, and my "But I'll be 50 in two years" protests are starting to sound kind of feeble.

    1. If you wear them with boots and the right top, they're quite flattering....which REALLY surprised me! Highly recommend if you can find a pair that don't have a juniors fit. These are the ones I'm wearing: http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-1168661/apt-9-skinny-jeans.jsp on sale!

  7. The fact that you don't have to try hard to look great makes you cool in my book. Mixing classic oldies with a few new things and the every day staples is where it's at. Confidence is the key to looking great every day- no matter what you have on. My motto is also never to appoligize or make excuses for what I'm wearing even if I happened to get changed in the dark because I couldn't turn on the light when my husband was sleeping or if I've been wearing the same shirt two days in a row or am on day three of skipping a shower and have to wear a hat because my hair is getting stringy. If you act like "you meant to pull off that look", people will always compliment! I think it's hilarious when people say I always look "put together". If they only knew it was the last thing in my closet that was clean or it was the first thing I grabbed because I had exactly two minutes to change and put on make and do my hair. It's when people try too hard-that's uncool.

  8. I love your photos! Mine are literally point and shoot. if I could get from point and shoot to wear you are, I'd be thrilled. I can't wait for this storm to be over to try to find those boots at our Kohls!

  10. Right now of course, skinny jeans are way out for me. At six months people are actually noticing I'm pregnant!

I'm jealous of people who can get the long/tall length and use it to deal with low rise problems. Those of us who need the long because we are tall... can't. I just wear really long shirts.

I love those boots. Love, love, love. I'd be wearing them every day too. I really need a new pair of boots desperately. All I have is a pair of Ugg-style fleece boots, which are great in winter but a bit much for fall and spring. My nice black boots have given up the ghost and evidently five pregnancies have made my feet extra wide so none of the boots I have tried will even fit. :( I don't think they even sell cute boots in size triple wide. :(

  16. Your outfit is so cute! And the photos against the corrugated metal is very Anthropologie-ish. You look even better close up! There is no "tooth situation" - you are gorgeous!

There is nothing Sasquatch-y about this photo shoot, no sir!

  17. Dweej! Love the tip about the jeans! I spend far too much time hitching up skinny jeans that shimmy down, but I love how they look. I even spent $$ on a pair of maternity skinny jeans which are a complete fail. Sad.

  21. You ARE so stinking cute. When I read this, I am so inspired to buy a pair of boots and to wish I could wear skinny jeans. But if I took shots of myself and what I wore on Sundays, people would be inspired to not read my blog.

  22. Your jewelry--I love it! And your hair...I aspire to the wavy, messy, Jennifer-Nettles-from-Sugarland bob, although I'm not quite brave enough to cut mine, and you wear that style perfectly!
