Fuzzi Bunz cloth diaper review and giveaway!

Did you hear the one about the girl with no dryer and no hot water in her laundry room who still managed to use cloth diapers?  It's true!

If you've been reading for a while (and if you haven't and you're just here to snag you some free Fuzzi Bunz...git it, girl!) you already know this, but I don't like to pass up a chance to complain discuss our laundry room "situation".  Anyway, someday we will overhaul that room, at which point we will acquire one of them fancy, new-fangled, electricalish dryers and a hot water bib that functions but until then, Imma work it pioneer style.

What?  Pioneers totally had front loading washers and running water.

Okay, where am I going with this............?  Oh yes!  Fuzzi Bunz!

The other day Colleen, a fellow Michigander and small-business-ownin' mama, asked me if I'd like to try some FuzziBunz and then give some away to you guys and I was all "Do bears poop in the woods?" (which isn't some kind of diaper code phrase, I swear).  Then the FuzziBunz magically appeared in our mailbox and I tried them and, well, I kind of love them.

See, because I'm a cheapskate, we normally use pre-folds (those are like the cotton rectangles you imagine when someone says "cloth diapers) inside of a waterproof diaper cover.  That is the cheapest way to cloth diaper and it's been fine for seven months.  But then I used the Fuzzi Bunz and guess what?

1) less bulky (not a huge deal for me but may be for some)

2) easy to put on because the absorbent thing is INSIDE the diaper and not laying on top (nice, but not again, not huge deal for me personally)

and...here's where the laundry room thing comes in...wait for it...

3) super fast drying on the indoor drying rack (HUGE DEAL FOR ME OH MY GOSH GIVE ME A HUNDRED OF THESE)

Seriously, these things dry so fast it's crazy.  Crazy awesome.  Super awesomely crazy.  Faster than the Bumgenius inserts, which I've also tried.  Oh, and the soft inside lining somehow magically stays dry against the baby's bum while the absorbent insert thing gets soggy.  How is that possible?  I do not know.  Science is hard.

Alright, let's talk about the options available.  You can get the one-size-fits-all adjustable Elites, which are great for new  babies who are growing really fast or petite nuggets without enormous thighs.

Mary, who is a chunk-a-munk and has enormous thighs, fits better in the standard Fuzzi Bunz, which come sized.  At 7 months old, she weighs 21 lbs and has inherited my super long butt (sorry, baby) so I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to squeeze her into the Elites.  The size medium, on the other hand, fits her GREAT.

Just check out this size comparison:

Crazy, right?

Anyway, I pretty much love these diapers and as fast as I can wash them I use them again.  If you want a pocket diaper, get these from Colleen's site Fuzzi Bunz Seconds Factory because a) her prices are great because she stocks seconds and b) she offers a buy-5-get-1-free deal.  Free!  I love free!

Ready to try and win you some?  The good news is that you can choose your own color and size from what's in stock at her shop and the better news is that I'll be drawing TWO winners.  Twice as likely to win!  Yay!

  1. We love Fuzzi Bunz! Now that my son is almost two, I'm noticing that with the cloth diapers, he's better about "telling" us when he's wet. Hoping that translates to potty training! :)

  2. Ooooh exciting! I love all the colors. Mac & cheese and watermelon. Wait, is this the cafeteria? :)

  3. Um, oh my gosh Dwija. How do you grow your babies. I just took Jordan to her 18 month and she's 23 pounds, 12 ounces. What???

    Also: BABY THIGHS!

  4. New reader here! I've been using a set of Fuzzibunz for almost 2 years and I've LOVED them. Lately, the absorbency hasn't been so great, but I'm not sure if that's because I need new inserts or because my toddler drinks waaaaaay too much milk. Either way, glad that you've discovered the joys of pocket-style diapers! (Oh, and I'm a fan of the mint, too)

  6. I love my FuzziBunz! I got 2 size small from my sister before baby was born, thought I hated them when he was "tiny" (yes, I consider 9.5 pounds tiny now), but they have grown into my favorite diapers in my stash of "mis-matched awesomeness that I got for super cheap" diapers (all pockets)!

I want to get more of them when I can afford to...the Big Sky color is my new favorite (I have Butter and Lavender).

  7. I love any of the green ones!!! My little Beatrice is the first I have used cloth with (and I started them with her when she was like 9 or 10 months old) and we are basically all fuzzibunz and bum genius. Love these dipes!

  8. Science IS hard. You crack me up lady.

  10. I would love to try FuzziBunz! We have prefolds too. I would love to try something new and different.

  11. Our first baby is due in May and I REALLY want to clothe diaper. My family thinks I'm crazy. I'm now on a mission to prove them wrong. :)

  14. I used the Fuzzi Bunz 2.0 version both new and seconds, the same ones, on all 4 of my children. They lasted through all those kids and are still going strong elsewhere. Really great diapers. Loved them.

I'm not entering the drawing but thought I would throw that out there for anyone who wants to try cloth diapering.

  15. We have one Fuzzi Bunz and would love more! The fuchsia pink is definitely my favorite.

  16. Not sure if I'm ready to dive into the pool of cloth diapers, but if I win I would definitely be willing to give it a try! My son, Joseph, is 10 months and 24lbs+. I hope there's a size to fit my chunky boy.

Also, where did you get those cute slipper/shoes Mary is wearing? Keeping socks on a boy is impossible, those might do the trick.

    1. I keep them on her for that exact reason, Angelina! She can't get them off so her tootsies stay warm. The store I got them from is out of business (many years ago) but if you google "soft soled baby shoes" you'll get tons of options. They are great!

    2. Thanks! I will check em out. It's currently 70-80 degrees in Phoenix, so we are sockless this week. But if it gets "chilly" again, I'll be sure to give them a try. :)

    3. I've purchased a pair each for my 3rd and 4th children at Target. They are great for winter! I've been pleased as punch with them. I'm sure you could find them on eBay, too.

  17. Would love to try Watermelon. I think every baby needs a red diaper, and mine doesn't have one! (yet.)

  18. Cloth diapers have come a long ways from the days when I secured cloth diapers with safety pins and covered the diapers with plastic pants on my three kids' behinds. Why wouldn't a mother use these? Cute and practical.

  19. Love the lavender and grape colors!

  20. We are in a similar boat: use mostly pre-folds, but have two Fuzzibunz, purchased secondhand. They're definitely quicker to put on.

  21. Fuzzi Bunz are my favorite. I got a whole bunch in a shower before Joe and they changed my cloth diapering world. Kumquat is my favorite one, closely followed by Chocolate Truffle.
I too was surprised by how much less bulky they are Dwija. I started off with PFs and covers, but now they're my last resort. The FB's just seem so much more comfortable for the baby too with the fleece.

  22. I have only boy colors of Mommys Touch prefolds plus covers....so I would have to say that, in the off chance we ever get a girl, I like the sweet cotton candy pink diaper.

  23. I LOVE my FuzziBunz! ...and I'd love to add to my stash :)
I'm interested to see what it's like to have two in cloth diapers. Guess I'll be finding out SOON.

  28. These sound awesome! I cloth diaper and use all prefolds mostly because I was afraid of long drying times with pockets and all in ones. I like the grass green one!

  29. Free diapers?!?!? Yes, ma'am!!! I've never tried fuzzibunz and would looove to :) Thanks, Dwija, ma'am.

  33. I was lent a set of these when my son was a baby. He's grown out of them now, but I enjoyed using them. Best of all is hanging them out on the line - nothing like a line of candy-colored diapers waving against the summer sky to help cheer me up. Favorite color's the watermelon, though.

  34. i keep delaying the cloth diaper thing, I really need to start!

    ReplyDelete
  35. i usually like plain white, or the butter

  36. Love those pinks! I've probably got more than enough cloth diapers right now, even with diapering twins... But as a heads up, the shells are AWESOME as swim diapers, since the littles can't undo the snaps and the lining is against their skin instead of PUL. Saved our butts on a surprise trip to Lake Michigan!

  38. Woo hoo for cloth diapers! I love the watermelon color! I use mainly prefolds & covers on my babes (hello cheap!), but would love to try these. Thanks for the giveaway.

  42. Have you had any diaper rash with your cloth diapers? If so, what do you use on it? I know some stuff can't be used w/ CD.

    1. Mary got a VERY bad rash a couple of months ago. None of the natural cream worked. Turns out she was allergic to the Arm & Hammer Washing Soda I was using in the homemade laundry soap. I tried a few brands and then moved up to Tide and VOILA! Rash gone. So. Not as cheap as making my own, but still cheaper than disposables AND my kids' clothes are super sparkly :)

    2. I used the Weleda Baby calendula lotion under a light layer of vaseline with no negative effects on the diapers and quick healing for the babies. Now I'm using just a homemade calendula ointment that seems to do the trick as well. The zinc oxide in most diaper creams is the stuff that really just does not come out with washing and will ruin the absorbancy over time. Obviously, it is worth figuring out and eliminating the cause of the irritation as well. This last round turned out my little boy was sensitive to soy sauce--go figure.

My little Mary is 9 months old and probably only weighs 15 lbs. I grow 'em small. She's my 5th and I have yet to do the cloth diaper switcheroo, maybe some freebies are the incentive I need. Thanks for the giveaway...and I love ALL the colors bestest! And using ellipsis...(or would that be ellipsises, or ellipsi?)

  70. Dwija! I just came over from Like Mother Like Daughter, because I didn't see you there. You are one of my favorites. Oh, my gosh, I laughed out loud last week at the two year old makeup! I live in Indiana, in South Bend. I also use prefolds with covers. Frugal is the word! I have never been able to justify the expense of pocket diapers, though I have tried Motherease one size, and love them so much i have used them for so many years its a wonder they are still holding together.( great product, diapers and covers, actually. the ones that are part cotton/part poly last For. Ever. ) but, anyway, I am so excited to hear about your friend nearby who sells seconds. what a great idea! I would love to try them out.
