Garden, Kids, Renovations. You know.

Sometimes you just need a little break.  Not from the kids, but from everything else besides them. It's a tiring, frustrated thing when you start feeling disconnected from the very reason you do all the things you do around the house.  There you are doing the things and feeling irritated with the little people that keep getting in your way, when the little people are the whole point.  All the rest is details. Necessary, sure, but details. The people, the little ones and that big one you're married to, they're where it's at.

So this weekend we just took some time.

And it really was okay that someone threw a handful of peas in the middle of the bed and then kicked over the bag of seeds on his way to pick them up.  It was really totally fine.

And it was really okay that the three big ones made themselves a soccer game instead of cleaning their rooms.  I really, truly didn't mind.

Oh, do you know what this is?  Our horrible living room.  Probably you've never seen it all at once like this because it is such a cave of darkness.

It turns out that my kids, like me, enjoy themselves some room transformations.  So instead of checking facebook or blogging or wishing we could DO something....we did something.

Now, it's not finished yet because I'm trying to keep it at a happy kid helper pace, but wanna see a teeny itty bitty sneak peek?  You know it, honey.

Wall, courtesy of family awesomeness.  Beer signifying that the boy and the husband brewed a batch of beer together on Saturday morning.  In addition to all the other things.  All of them.  In one weekend.  It was great.  My family is great.

  8. Awesome weekend of family awesomeness!

Kids helped the hubs do major yard work this weekend while my 7 month pregnant self sloth-like slept on the couch... Husband + kids = productive. Mommy = just grew a baby. ;D

  9. Ah, so true. I need a kick in the pants to remember yet again that when I think I'm going crazy spending too much time with the kids is exactly when I need to stop and spend some time WITH the kids. Yay for redoing the living room! I saw you pinning those lovely colors and now I must know which one you picked!!

  10. I've had that same feeling with my kids--that they ARE the reason for all of this and "all of this" is the irrelevant part! I can't wait to see your living room!

  11. Thank you so much for this timely reminder--too often I'm tempted to "work around" my two year old instead of giving him my best efforts first. I'm a relatively new reader, and I think you are a fabulous woman with a wonderful blog! - Laurel
