Not pre-teen angst after all!

Last night I was kissing the big girls goodnight (when will we stop going to their rooms to tuck them in?  I hope never) and Lizzy asked me how she could get an annoying song out of her head.  "I've already tried replacing it with a different song and it just won't go away! Ugh!"
Very, very carefully, so as not to disrupt her delicate pre-teen sensibilities, I suggested that maybe she could pray.  But I added in a shrug and a question mark to make it more kid friendly and less old lady.  Or something.  I mean....you know what I mean.  And then I was like "but not praying, like, 'Dear God, please get this song out of my head!'  Although I guess you could do that.  But what I mean is maybe pray something like the rosary or whatever to distract yourself.  Or whatever."  Then in my head I added "I'm breezy!"  And I held my breath a little while she stared at me.

"Yeah, I noticed one night that there are ten tiles across on my ceiling, so I use each row as one of the decades to help me keep track."

Oh my gosh.  I love my kids

  2. Great suggestion. I have been told brushing your teeth will get a song out of your head though… maybe that works too?

(I always sing the theme to "Punky Brewster" to get a song out of my head.)

  5. My 15 year old SON just stopped having me come upstairs within the last year. But he STILL won't go to bed without a kiss and hug goodnight from his Momma!

  6. Yeah... kids are beautiful at all ages. My struggle as a mom of pre-teens and teens is to spend more time appreciating that beauty and less time managing it.

  7. It's all about the breezy comments. You never know when they might be doin' some extra prayin'... and that's the best.

  17. I was told that a sure fire trick for getting a song out of your head is to sing (probably not out loud for the sake of... anyone) Amazing Grace to the tune of Gilligan's Island.....
