Pregnancy minutiae that no one cares about

The other day Cari mentioned that Saturday is the perfect day to post stuff that no one cares about because who's reading blogs on a Saturday?

So here's a time capsule kind of post about this pregnancy so far so that in a few years when my memory has smashed five or six years into a small blur of babies and kids and dogs and popsicle stains on carpets, I can read it and say "oh, now I remember that.  I can't believe that was YOU in my belly.  Amazing!"

This is the most hungry I've ever been while pregnant.  Hands down.  Eating every two hours for the first trimester kept the barfies at bay, but now I still eat every two hours because oh my gosh I am so starving and why does all the food in our house suck and I guess I'll just have to inhale these stale cookie things after dipping them into Nutella.

That literally just happened a few minutes ago.  I went to the kitchen to start making dinner, got sidetracked by the idea of eating rightthisverysecond and I did.  Now I'm eating a pickle.  No joke.

With Mary I had an anterior placenta (that means the placenta is attached to the front inside of mama's belly instead of to the back inside), so I didn't really start feeling her move until 18-20 weeks and even then it was pretty sporadic.  This time I can only assume that the placenta is in the most out of the way position possible because I felt this sweet hungry thing move at a mere 13 weeks.  Yes.  Thirteen.  And I've had Mr. Michael Flatley himself doing his fanciest footwork in there ever since.

Yesterday I was on the floor of the baby room doing something.  Probably changing Mary's diaper.  And then I tried to stand up from a squatting position and sort of fell backwards a little.  I was fine, but when I stood up it was as if Pointy Bird had been turned sideways against his will and he was NOT pleased.  I don't know how to explain it but it was like I could actually feel like a butt or head wedged ridiculously hard against the side of ye old belleh, which is weird for 20 weeks.  At least it's weird for me.  Usually they're a lot bigger and older before they start wedging themselves places.

I had to get on my hands and knees and kind of shake the baby back to the center where s/he belongs.  And I said to Tommy "I just feel every little thing with this baby.  So much more than with anyone else."

Experience?  Age?  I don't know.  But there it is.

Gosh, I sure hope Cari is right and no one is crying tears of boredom reading this!

Oh, hey, also I wore horizontal stripes today.  Probably not the best idea, huh?

Theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee  eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeend.  (that's what we do at the end of every story we read to Mary)

    3. I second it also ... I've only had two pregnancies but this one sounds like my twin pregnancy!

    4. Have a scan already lady! (This is my first comment ever and I'm already bossing you!) This sounds so much like my twin pregnancy and I know you think you should be much bigger with twins, but the extra growth doesn't really show till after the midway point. I'll be checking back impatiently, and praying for you ;-) Katie

  7. Oh my gosh I have this same problem! I go into the kitchen to do something 'productive' and get distracted by having to eat SOMETHING RIGHT NOW. "What's that? Oh... Lunch? Yes, yes, sorry children, right after mommy eats her snack..." O.o
So I made those biscotti I was telling you about and some beef jerkey for quicker snacking. My poor starving children...

  8. Love baby talk! I am 19 weeks and only started feeling the baby a week or two ago. I have been craving meat, meat and more meat. You don't know how badly I want to go to a Brazilian Steakhouse right now.

  9. In spite of your title, we all clicked on it, read it, and loved hearing about the minutae of a miracle :)

  10. I felt my son move that early. It could have been because I am really body aware (something my chiros and physical therapists keep telling me) or because he turned out to be a 10 pound 14 oz baby which we induced two weeks early. So what's your preference twins or one who comes out the size of a 3 month old? LOL.

  11. lol I actually read everything posted on Saturday's because NO ONE posts on Saturdays. And I get bored while I'm laying my son down for a nap and I'm reading on my kindle :-) So I read all of this and didn't get bored once. P.s. you're pulling the strips off wonderfully!

  12. I love reading pregnancy minutiae! I'm not pregnant at the moment (shocking, really) and so I get to live vicariously through you!

And, um, I hate to join the TWINS chorus but really, getting wedged and feeling movements crazy early sounds an awful lot like what my MIL described her twin pregnancy like. I've never had that at 20 weeks.

  13. Oh my gosh. I totally misspelled my title! Thank you for your comment so I could fix my silly word to the proper plural ending. Oy. For shame! :)

  14. Oh thank goodness. Not enough people post on Saturdays, I tell ya.

I know that for lotsa women, pregnancy can be really hard and can actually kind of suck, but it sounds like so.much.fun to me! (I suppose I may be singing a different tune a little later in life...)

    Thanks for sharing the details!

    1. Just for the record, I loved being pregnant. Yeah, I got sick in the first trimester, but not so badly that I ever missed work. (I did puke in the street on the way to the bus once, though. I know, TMI.) And the last month seemed like it lasted forever, but I married into a family whose men's babies gestate for a very long time. Not the women's. Just the men's. But it was so amazing to know that I was carrying life, and feeling the baby move was beyond description, and my husband kept telling me how beautiful I was, and birth was painful but I didn't need any drugs. So yeah. It can be a lot of fun!

  16. Feeling a baby inside of you is a bit weird when you think about it. Especially when you look back at the toddler and go, CRAP! He was in there!

  17. Nothing boring about pregnancy tales! I'm at 36 weeks with my eighth, and I felt it very early, too, and got pretty big pretty quickly, and was very hungry through the first two trimesters. Only one baby in here! (Just in case the twins are scaring you.)

  18. More baby talk please. Goo goo gaga us!

  19. Love this update! So fun! You look great! And I'm pretty sure this could explain my pregnancy with my first. And, as much as I was asked if I was having twins, I had a 9 lb 6 ozer at the end of the day - just a very hungry, fast-growing baby boy. Prayers for comfort and more yummy food than yucky! Excited about the ultrasound!!!

  20. Love baby/pregnancy/birth posts! Can't wait to hear about the ultrasound!

  21. Oh yeah...I think you're having twins too! I was reaaaallllly hungry, measured about two weeks big by the time I had the 20 week u/s, and felt them move about 14 weeks. I can't wait to hear the news :)

  22. I love pregnancy updates! I just had to say, that the feeling-every-single-thing and constant hunger was my #4. (Not twins). I felt so much of her, it was like it was just my skin separating her from the outside world. I'd even have dreams that I could see her through my belly. She was also all Lord of the Dance on my bladder - she was breech until 35 weeks when I had her turned. Enjoy pregnancy for those of us who wish we were pregnant again, but aren't ready for what comes after that (yeah, I'm crazy - I wish pregnancy was 22 months like for elephants.)
