Wait, let's start off with the good. The GOOD part about using bloglovin' is that every blog is the same, so anyone who reads mine can forget how stale and old and ga ga goo goo baby goes poo poo in her diaper it looks.
The bad part is that I don't see other people's blogs either until I use a real computer some fateful night. Like last night.
Oh my gosh. People. The blog design envy I'm feeling right now should send me straight to the confessional!
A couple months ago it was Grace. Then Jessica. Cari got a complete overhaul in there somewhere. Then Carolyn. Then Christy. Then I saw Kendra's ( I don't even know how long it's been since she changes hers but lawdy, the colors! The layout! The everything!). And I was like "no one look at my embarrassing blog! I should just make my own custom header all by myself rightthisverysecond and all my problems will be solved.
Well, you know what? Graphics and junk is HARD. because there I was at THREE O'CLOCK IN THE FRICKEN FRACKEN MORNING finishing up my magical new header. And then I uploaded it and guess what? It looked like a steaming pile of feces.
not a dramatization |
Or something like that.
Aaaaand that's all I've got. Is this, like, the lazy pregnant blogger version of nesting? Wanting a remodel but being unable to actually execute said remodel? I'm so cutting edge.
Hey, if you've redone your blog in the last few months, will you tell me? Because the reader...it just don't tell me nothin.' And I wants to drool over the lovliness and stay up all night again.

Wait, you didn't mention ME in there! Hahahahahahahaha... Seriously, all these fancy lookin' blogs are making the rest of us look very amateur, right?
ReplyDelete(But p.s. I actually like that yours looks familiar and not overly professional. It makes it much more comfortable :)
Oh, no. Now that I've seen Kendra's amazing blog design I, too, am very envious and feeling like my blog looks like a cross between that steaming pile of feces and dirty half-melted snow on the side of the road.
ReplyDeleteI put a new header on mine a few weeks ago. That's it. I don't know how to do much more! Your blog is fine the way it is. Not a steaming pile at all!
ReplyDeleteI know those redesigned sites are aesthetically wonderful and written by very, very lovely women... but I would continue reading everything you write regardless of how your blog looks because I love what you have to say, and how you say it. Not to say this slice of the internet currently looks terrible because it MOST certainly DOES NOT. But. I'm just sayin'. Put your own rest time and post writing ahead of a redesign because those (I think) are so much more important. :)
ReplyDeleteUgh, don't look at my blog! Sigh.
ReplyDeleteDarlin', I just can't name a single blog that I read because of a cool header, you know? Not one! I mean, I'm sure the above blogs are snazzy and all, and I will probably visit them even, but if I keep going back it's because I like the actual writing. And I love yours! So there. :)
ReplyDeleteI was feeling the same way Dwija! I just updated mine over the weekend. I very rarely look at my own blog, but it is still so nice to know that it looks fresh and new
ReplyDeleteYep, just redid mine :).
ReplyDeleteI love your blog because it's you, not because of what it looks like. I read because you're awesome. And the imperfect look just adds to the charm.
ReplyDeleteI love yours! I agree with Mary, it feels like a little home. Comfy and cozy. I too did a little something but not anything if that makes any sense. Haha. I have no design skills so I have a title and some sidebar stuff. It's a work in progress just like me :)
ReplyDeleteI like your blog just the way it is. The yellow is so... cheerful. Comforting in a pleasant way. You know? I changed mine a while ago, but I don't know... I like it, but man, those nice clean lotsa-white-space blogs... I like those, too.
ReplyDeleteShucks Dweeje, thanks.
ReplyDeleteMine was also a third trimester blog nesting thing. But if it kept anyone up until 3am it wasn't me. Designer Blogs did mine. I got it for Chtistmas.
I am totally impressed that you undertook to do yours by yourself. I'll bet it's great. But I also love your blog how it is. It is the color of butter. Mmmmm buuuuttrrrr.
dawww Thank you Dwija! I know that little green blog design bug quite well. All I did was select the most simple, free template, and use it as my base design. Then I looked up a bunch of CSS tweaks by googling til 3am for a few consecutive nights last week. Then with the bag under me eyes, I discovered Picmonkey.com. Then I dun draw'd a few things by my lonesome. Put them together, keeping it elementary simple, and voila. Not fabulous, but not a G-note either. I agree with Kendra, buttah. Keep the buttah. I love header, it's among well-known engrained logos in my head: Pepsi, Coke-a-Cola, House Unseen, Life Unscripted.
ReplyDeleteYes to picmonkey! I will be forever grateful to Micaela for pointing me towards picmonkey. I had a graphic designer friend clean up my pile of feces. I bought my graphic from some clip art site. And I watched a billion tutorials about html and pixels and image resolution etc. BUT I looked at your blog first! The warm muted colors, the chickens, I love your header, and you're whole blog design. I'm hoping my design lasts for years and years, and I was hoping yours would too. Why mess with a good thing?
ReplyDeleteI like your header! And I redesigned mine at some point in there... More of a postpartum wanting to feel productive. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love your header. It's like a trademark. But boy do I know the itch to change. I re-did mine last year (and took the header photo for Kendra's coughcough) and I really like the fresh look of a new blog. Soooooo, I'm thinking about re-doing mine too. Again. But probably just cleaning up the sidebar and re-doing the header, nothing big. The HUGE thing was the move to WordPress, but I don't think that's what you're asking about.
ReplyDeleteHere's something funny...I don't read blogs because they are pretty, or have a nifty design or anything like that. In fact, sometimes I think they are trying to hard. I am a content girl and your content is awesome. I think your design is just right, so, as they say, 'i like you just the way you are!'.
ReplyDeleteAnd I used the word 'nifty' which is awesome. the.end.
DeleteI like the comfort of the same blog design - I know who I'm reading because it all looks exactly a certain way! But you do make me laugh.
ReplyDeleteI like your blog and your header and I don't think you need a change.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I'm not a huge fan of blog headers changing all the time, because I like familiar. I'm old and stuffy like that.
I was going to change my header, too, because after two years I finally realized it was baby poop colored. I spent 30 minutes on it, then stuck it in my 7 quick takes as a joke. It was blindingly bright and awful. Within minutes I had someone offering to make one for me. People are so sweet.
ReplyDeleteI like your header. Everyone seems to be going to the clean, white, minimalist design. While it is pretty, I appreciate the yellow cheeriness of yours.
I love your yellow color choice! That was the color of my bridesmaids dresses :) I just redid mine. Nervous as hell to lose something or everything, but I did it with a wing and a prayer. But it is still basic, simple. Not a lot of gadgets and gizmos. Plain, kind of like me :)
ReplyDeleteI like your design! But for real, making blogs look cute is HARD. When I started my new blog...I bought a pre-made design that I really liked. I felt bad about spending money on it, but WORTH IT!
ReplyDeleteoooh. I just re did both my blogs and it was super easy. I hired a Smart Person. The Smart Person that I hired was the queen of cuteness over at Hot Bliggity Blog.
ReplyDeletedont change anything. if you change i`ll have to spare a bit of my brain to readjust the matching Dweej+her blog. I`ll be lost. And, i don`t have brain to spare right now. so, justo dont change. pretty please?!
ReplyDeleteOkay, after reading all your comments here and on the fb page, I've decided that the color and header will stay, but that I really need to clean up my sidebar and organize my navigation tabs better. So, same design, new layout. Does that make sense? That way it will be the SAME but it will be BETTER the same :)
ReplyDeleteI can relate & the heep o' poo made me laugh.so.hard.out.loud.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing other blog designs, and sometimes when I see one I like start getting antsy to change it up ;)
I redid mine. Again. I'm using WP.com, which means my custom design options are nil unless I want to cough up money. (The new and different! readers WP.com brings in is worth the annoyance, though.) I've been fighting to find a template with a readable (read: big enough) font that also made me happy, design-wise. I think I figured it out. New background, crazy Victorian lady, very happy.
ReplyDeleteah. I just came over to tell you not to change a thing and chaaaaaaaaaanged.
ReplyDeletetoo late.
But I love it. Love love. improved on perfection!!!!!
