40 whole weeks belly pic + midwife update

Have you noticed how the quality of these mirror selfie belly photos has been decreasing over the weeks?  If I have to post a 41 week shot or a (heaven forbid!  I'm serious right now.  Lord, can you please forbid it?) 42 week shot, they are gonna be some doozies.  And by "doozies" I of course mean "terrible."

Okay, 40 weeks and still standing.  Barely.

Notice that the crib is STILL leaning against the wall there.  We don't even see it anymore.  I'm like "There!  The house is clean!" And that thing is just staaaaaaring me right in the face.

So my midwife came by this afternoon and listened to me whine and complain for an hour or three.  She is so nice.  I'm always in a better mood after she visits even if she doesn't bring magical labor dust to sprinkle all over my house.  Which someone should totally invent, bee tee dub.  Anyway, my feet and ankles look like terrible water balloons at the end of the day but my blood pressure is great and there is no protein in my urine (isn't it nice how we can just say the word "urine" like it's no big deal?  And by "nice" I mean "weird?") so we aren't in panic mode yet.

Then I weighed myself and I am the same weight as my last appointment.  Good sign #1.  And my digestive tract has been *ahem* clearing itself out *ahem* for the last two weeks = good sign #2.  So I finally asked for her to check for dilation because my darling uterus doesn't just start being in labor one day and keep going until baby arrives.  Oh nononononononono friends- I have contractions, real ones, not BH, every evening for several hours for weeks leading up to actual labor.   So much that Tommy actually stayed home today from work.  For nothing.  Because I've never done this before?  Oy.

Anyway, the prodromal labor is exhausting BUT it is useful.  Because here I am obviously not in active labor but am sporting a lovely 3.5 cm of dilation, am 50% effaced, and baby's head is at -1 station.

C'mon, baby!  You can doooooooooo iiiiiiiiiiiit!

Let's not discuss the fact that I walked around for an entire week at 4 cm with Mary before real labor started, m'kay?  M'kay.

NB- tomorrow is Friday.  You know how I feel about Fridays.

  2. Yay! He's really coming!!! The days are each such a big deal at this point, but in the grand scheme of things, it's SO SOON. I'm praying that you're are all ready in your head, that there's nothing in the way of getting this labour going, and that God's timing will be perfect. Easy to pray that, since it always is. But it's so hard to rest in His timing when it's perfectly obvious that this child should be born NOW.Blessings upon you and all yours!

  3. Come on out, baby, we know you want to!!

And for the record, I have no idea how to pronounce "prodromal" because I have only ever seen it written, but my head says it as "pro-drama-llama-full."

  4. First, I have choked this down for the last several posts, but I can't staaaand it anymore, so I'll just say it and you can slap me through the computer, "I was right!" If you go waaay back to the first post you wrote about The Changing of the Due Dates, I predicted the first date was right. I'm not rubbing it in though. I have great empathy. Cuz I did it. See?????

I'm not trying to hijack here, just really, I KNOW, it suckity suck sucks. I know no matter how much you *know* in your head that the first due date could be right, when the changed due date comes around you are *readytogo*, and every day after that is misery. I'm sorry. But...baby is coming! You know that! But really, any time. and 3.5 dilation is *awesome*! I was in active labor and checked into the hospital at barely 3! Look how much work you've done! woohoo!

    1. I know! I've been thinking the same thing every day. If I go much longer....say another 4 or 5 days, then I'll know that my original dates were closer to right. If I can go ahead and have this baby, like, TOMORROW, then I will agree to not bash the ultrasound ;)

  5. I was at 4 cm for a week one and then my labor was like lightening fast! So, keep an eye on it. Or it could be mind-numbingly slow. Been there, too. Actually, never mind. Nobody knows what freak show is in store for anybody when labor comes knocking.

  6. I said this last round of pictures and I'll say it again - I am so impressed by how you continue to look so nice! And that you're wearing real clothes! And jewelry! (says the one who was a TOTAL bum from, oh 32 weeks on!)

  7. Ohhhhhhh Dwijaaaaaaaaaa. I'm just groaning in misery for you here! A few years ago, my precious son was SIXTEEN days late (do you remember that?). It was pure insanity. I am praying for you!!! This is not easy!

  8. Hey, progress is progress! I won't discuss my being a full 5cm dilated with bulging waters for a minimum of 4 days before going into labor that resulted in a baby at almost exactly 42 weeks pregnant.......yeah...I was fairly sure I was gonna go to the bathroom and the baby was going to literally fall out that whole week...

But you look fantastic btw! Still looking your same lovely self, just casually defying gravity with your awesome pointy baby :)

  9. Go pointy baby! I walked around at 6 cm - yes 6 - for a couple weeks last summer before squirting out my 9.5 lb baby girl 1.5 hours after my water finally broke, six days past her due date. I'm the prodromal queen. I hope you don't feel the need to test my reign.

  10. I'm still betting that there is a second baby chilling out in there... hiding behind his/her bro or something.

  11. Yay for progress!

And the crib? I do that all the time. Things just disappear from my radar when they've been there for a while...

  12. Ugg I did the prodromal labor for weeks before delivery too. It's such an exhausting mind game. I'm so sorry! You look beautiful and yay for progress!

  13. HOW are you still standing?! And walking. And doing stuff? I'm not sure I'd survive your situation. Praying for you and family!

  14. I hear you on the contractions for a week each night before labor actually bringing on the baby! That's how my last 3 were, and this one is looking like it's going to be the same way. I was 4 cm for a couple of days before my last baby was born. It really ups the crazies, because if you start at 4 with a later baby, you could be done in NO TIME, but there are other kids to make sure get taken care of...you'll be in my prayers!

  15. You look gorgeous! Praying this baby comes soon (and safely)!

  16. I did prodromal labor for a bit and then when I went into labor it was precipitous labor - which means that I delivered without a doctor in the room but FORTUNATELY my labor nurse was in training to be a midwife. I still think there are two in there and you will never convince me otherwise. If only one comes out then I'm going to think that the midwife is hiding one behind her back. #kidding #mostly

And Dweej, you still look fabulous!

  18. Woohoo for good signs and looking great at 40 weeks! Our youngest aka baby2 did the same "hey you're in labor!" Joke starting at 30 weeks! I only made it to 37w4d but I was 5cm and 60% at 30 weeks, talk about an emotional roller coaster! I was afraid to sneeze (among all the *other* things) for fear of giving birth!! You and baby boy are in our prayers and thoughts!

  19. I was at 7 for daaaaaayyyyys before number 4. As you might imagine, it's a good thing we were prepared for a home birth because I totally didn't recognize labor and the midwife didn't have enough time to get there. When I called her, in transition, I STILL wasn't sure I was in labor....but somehow she could tell. ;-)

  21. If you're still not in labor (haven't seen any announcements) I think the reason is so you can add a brand new special intention that I have. You can blame me! - nancyo
