Shining.

I'm sitting...no...reclining. I'm reclining on a one of those lie-down-and-sunbathe chairs on the deck on the south side of our house. Around the corner, about two suburban backyards away, I can hear, just faintly enough, three of my kids shrieking with glee as they create yet another ridiculous trampoline game. The sun is glinting off the white text on my eldest's sweatshirt. She's sitting two chairs away reading Sherlock Holmes.

Her eyes are squinting. She is happy.

I hear the small squeak of birds in the maple tree. We're imagining they're robins. The ducks are making a happy honk. Every few minutes a chicken clucks an excited cluck. She sounds as glad as I am.

Oh! There's a woodpecker! I can't see him, but I can hear him.

Even the owls can't sleep. They're excited too, I guess. Owl insomnia. It's a thing this week.

When the kids from down the street go by on their quads, the dogs bark. No one even minds. It's the sound of life.

I'm in the sun. I have a book. Two little ones are napping in their beds.

I'm outside, on a deck, wearing a skirt. The mercury says 78 degrees where I'm sitting.

The sun is shining.

This is it. This is the good life.

  3. Looks great! I'm living in Hawaii these days, so I miss the seasons (yes, even winter) and live them vicariously through bloggers and social media. ;-)

Can we talk for a sec about your shoes? Where?

  6. Love all the birds! I feel the same way, even though it isn't pretty/warm here yet. Why? Because of our new dishwasher!! I've gotten back 1.5-2 hours a day, so I too can sit and read at times. :)

  9. Ahh - the perfect day! Thank you for the beautiful description. You brought little tears of joy to my eyes. Nothing better than big kids playing outside, little kids napping, and mom with a book in her hand. Aiming for those simple pleasures myself today.

  10. I agree with Kris on the shoes - super cute, Dwij!

Also - thank you for the link the other day to the shop where you bought your beautiful bathroom painting. My husband and I are moving into our new house (we started today! Huzzah!), and it looked like a perfect first decoration/happy Easter to us/yay new house/everybody-needs-to-know-this-so-I-have-to-have-it kind of picture. So, I bought us one! I already love it, and it looks so nice in your bathroom. (Smart on the placement, my friend. Ain't nobody gonna miss it. Not sure where we'll put ours yet.)

We are your mid-western neighbors (in central WI) and I feeeeeeeel you on the joy that is the warm weather. Bring. it. on. Blessings to you.
