Before Pics
Okay, ready?
Yay! So Un-Country Bear's Jamboree!
We kept the carpet like I promised (someday it will go bye bye, but this is not that day) as well as the handrail and all the trim and woodworking. The handrail got a good scrubbing and the woodwork was just primed and painted. We replaced the hardware on the handrail, the light fixture up there above the steps, and added a curtain rod and drapes to the window. Honestly we've been done for several weeks but I kept wanting to add some artwork or a gallery wall to the left of the window before I took these pics. And then finally I was like "oy! Time is a wastin'!" and so here I am.
Do you love that I removed the door and the half-wall from the bottom of the stairs and painted all the downstairs trim white to match the upstairs? Do you? Because doesn't it look amaze-wong??? Sigh. I'm so happy I bit the bullet and just did it.

ReplyDeleteVery nice,,,love the window!
ReplyDeleteThose curtains are gorgeous, but I'm sure I'd get them caught in the vacuum ;)
ReplyDeleteSeriously great updates!
So refreshing and airy! Just the way transitional spaces should be :)
ReplyDeleteSo refreshing and airy! Just the way transitional spaces should be :)
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous! ...and I may be the odd one out here, but with the new paint, I'm loving the blue carpet; it grounds the space while the paint gives such a fresh, airy feeling. Maybe it's just me. :) Also, so glad that door is gone. Good call!
ReplyDeleteI think you are totally right on both counts- floor and door!
DeleteYeah no, I'm totally WITH you, the blue carpet rocks. Luckily it's the trendy deep dusty blue, right? Nice. Way better than the wine-stained white all over our pink and whitewashed 80's designer dream we just bought!
Deleteohmigosh its like a different house! it looks SO SO SO GOOD!! i LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Was just checking your blog this weekend to see if I had missed the "afters"!
ReplyDeleteSooooo much better! It looks great! And I am glad you removed the door, it looked so awkward. Happy to see things coming together for you!
ReplyDeleteLooks nice, so much brighter. What do you use the hall closets for? Maybe you already talked about that?
ReplyDeleteGirl! You are the before and after queen. I haven't posted here much but I lurk...oh I lurk. I do have a question if you might have a chance- I just purchased a home (well, close in a week...details..) and I recognize those hideous SEAMS OF VINYL WALL BOARD ...STUFF... In your crib, and I'm wondering, well, first if you do have those odious things and second, what was your process for painting them? That doesn't look like dry wall to me is what I'm sayin and if it's not, what did you use? This also applies to your previous house unseen as I note you before and aftered quite a bit of cheesy wall paneling. My new digs have an abundance of 70's vinyl walls- think trailer home- and particle faux paneling. I want them to go away. Are we talking clean with vinegar then Killz before paint? What? It looks Ab Fab, dahling.
ReplyDeleteThe walls up there have seams but they are not the vinyl stuff that you find in bathrooms and such- they are more like thin drywall? I thiiiiiiink they put them up over older something once upon a time. At any rate, they were painted just like any old wall. As for the paneling at the old place, yes yes yes- clean, prime, prime, paint, paint, paint (those repetitions represent the approximate number of coats it seemed to take on the really dark boards. Oy.) You won't regret it, though. Painted paneling looks so good!
DeleteThank you!!!!!
DeleteReally, the new paint makes the carpet looks gooooood! It looks so much lighter!
ReplyDeleteYou always do such a great job of getting the biggest bang for your buck! I love the way you focus on the stuff that makes a big visual impact and don't waste money on minor stuff that makes no difference. It's like the opposite of the typical design show! -FarmAndAway
ReplyDeleteLooks great Dwija (and Tommy!)
ReplyDeleteWow! Looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteHoly crap! That is awesome!!
ReplyDeleteLove how fresh and light it is! But those bookcases at the bottom of the stairs... all the heart eyes!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! It's amazing how much the lighter wall color and painting the cabinets white brightens up the space. Those stairs looks SO steep! Are they really that steep or is it a weird optical illusion from the picture being taken from the bottom of the stairs?
ReplyDeleteNo, they are really actually that steep. Eep. Hundred year old farmhouse for the win!
