House Fixin'

Howdy! I'm glad you're here.
This post probably contains run-on sentences, sentence fragments,
affiliate links, and unnecessary ellipses.  If none of that bothers you, let's be friends.

Interview question eight:

"Speaking of the house, how much work have you done? How much more do you plan to do? Where do you get the biggest bang for your buck? Any ideas that have ended up in the "fail" category?"

Lucky for all of you (and by "you" of course I mean "me" because I already did all that hunt and paste work.  Boomshakalaka), I sort of answered this the other day, so I'll start with a few of the same before and after post links:

living room before/after
stairway and hall
den and playroom
garden tour in May of some year
dining room reveal
kitchen after the renovation  but before we laid the floor
a picture of the kitchen with the new floor (one year later)
the laundry room.
The small upstairs bedroom (which has no link because it has no post and maybe I should finally get around to that one...)

The only outdoor improvement we've made is that we built a permanent chicken coop and fully enclosed run during October and November.  Maybe someday I should blog about that?  Anyway, here's a bit of it in process:

Plus there's lots more over on IG since I took my blogging break ( #borobiahomestead for outdoor pics and #newhouse14 for some of indoor fix-it-stuff ), which you can look at on a desktop even if you don't have an Instagram account.

Plaaaaaaaaaaaaanning!  We are always in the middle of something.  Al. Ways. It's how I tamp my urge to troll Zillow and Realtor dot com. Okay, that's a lie. I still troll Zillow and Realtor dot com.  Can't stop, won't stop.

Right now I'm about halfway finished painting the large bedroom upstairs which the four big girls share.  It is slow going as per my patent-pending renovations with kids system, but I think I might just finish sometime before Helen gets her driver's license.

We also have got to tackle our bedroom someday (which is a sickly shade of greenish tan and makes me look like I just got slapped with 16 dead fishes when my face is framed against it) but not before I spruce up the downstairs (main) (tiny) (added many years later in the space between the walls that separate the kitchen from the basement stairs) bathroom.  Luckily the floor is nice (newish tile) and it's in working condition, so everything is gonna be cosmetic.  Yay!  My favorite!

Which brings me to the next part of your question, about the most bang for our buck.  I would say that cheap cosmetic fixes are huge.  Patching and painting banged up trim.  Caulking the spaces between trim and walls, trim and ceiling, door frame and wall (goodbye gaping spaces! You are now named Felicia! [up there in the link to the laundry room post, you can see what I mean with my thirteen thousand ceiling photos]).  And painting.  Painting painting painting.  Paint all the things.  Also, we're always going for a timeless look that matches the style of the home in the things that are difficult to change, and hitting on some trends only with accessories and stuff that can be easily updated or removed altogether.

Oh!  Window treatments!  Bare windows or plastic blinds are fine. Don't get me wrong- it is totally a luxury to be able to care about this kind of thing.  But if you have that luxury, I highly recommend putting some drapes up to frame your windows.  Hang your curtain rod higher and wider than your window frames and you will LOVE the difference you see in your room.

Maybe soon I can post about the boys' room which has been finished since probably February of '16.  Possibly.  We'll see.  It could happen.

Posting for the 12 days of Christmas...

  1. I was just thinking about your description years ago about how you were getting so much done in House Unseen. It included things like not showering, not changing clothes, and not sleeping. Maybe a post to compare the frenetic process there, vs how you've handled it here (more kids, more habitable house, etc.). How soon do you start garden work? -FarmAndAway

  2. I had some black marks on the side of my dryer too. If Mr. Cleans magic eraser doesn't take it off then try nail polish remover on cotton ball and rub gently. Depending how deep the scrapes are it should take it off. Lol. Shhhh....it's our secret :)

  3. Love seeing how you live in your space! We've been in our house for 3 1/2 years (and two babies), and I've wanted to paint and hang drapes since before we moved in. Maybe this summer... maybe... :)

  5. I remember in 2023, my credit score was terrible, I had so many collection accounts and would not approve of anything. I had rental debt, charge offs, student loans, tax liens from my credit report. I was then introduced to DOVLY CREDIT SOLUTION by Michael Wayne who is my attorney. I immediately contacted them by email: DOVLYCREDITSOLUTION@GMAIL.COM / +1 713 396 5299. Within 9 days my credit score went up from 571 to 801 across the 3 credit bureaus and I’ve been able to get a home loan and eligible for several credit cards. I will always recommend DOVLY CREDIT SOLUTION to anyone who desires to have a better credit life. Cheers!

  6. Hi, I’m Darren. This is not a drill; there is a group of hackers called DOVLY CREDIT SOLUTION that can help sort all your credit issues. A high FICO score is very important and this company to the best of my knowledge understands how to make it happen, how do they do it? I don’t know but honestly, they did a great job of getting my credit score up to 806 excellent score. Not just that they also removed negative items on it and wrote some very positive ones. DOVLY CREDIT SOLUTION has done it for me and I want the word to know about them. Contact them by email: DOVLYCREDITSOLUTION@GMAIL.COM / TEXT +1 (713) 396-5299. Ciao!

  7. Hello guys my name is Lynne Riley, a few weeks back my credit score was nothing to write home about, my credit score was around 520 TransUnion, 517 Equifax and 600 Experian. I had a lot of collections, old phone bills, negative rentals on my rental report. I was on a credit forum in reddit when a lady wrote about DOVLY CREDIT SOLUTION how they got to clear her debts and increase her score to a high 800. I quickly contacted them for repair assistance, to which I got a response. To my greatest surprise DOVLY CREDIT SOLUTION cleared out all negative items on my credit report and increased my score to 801 TransUnion, 808 Equifax and 811 Experian. They also posted a very good trade line on my report. They are the best of the best. Hit them up via email: DOVLYCREDITSOLUTION@GMAIL.COM OR Text +1 (713) 396-5299 and have your credit fixed today.

  8. I had eviction removed from my credit report, and I still can’t believe DOVLY CREDIT SOLUTION raised my credit to 801 TransUnion, 805 Equifax and 809 Experian within 8 days. He also helped me apply for a PPP loan with the sum of $40K which reflected in my bank account with low interest rate. I saw a lot of good comments about his good works, and he responded swiftly. Hire him now: DOVLYCREDITSOLUTION@GMAIL.COM / Or Call +1 (713) 396-5299.

  9. Hi all! I’m 29 years old. My credit started to tank around 2021 when expenses were outpacing my income. I got a lot of loan offers and foolishly took them, adding more expenses to my income. Didn’t help that I was in a relationship with someone who I greatly outnumbered and took on the burden of the bills to seem fair. Won’t be doing that again. I had a lot of collections and charge-offs from personal loans and CCs. From looking at my Experian I had several charge-offs that became collections and few that didn’t. Which all brought down my credit score to a low 586 score. I needed advice on rebuilding my score back to 700s. DOVLY CREDIT SOLUTION came through for me, my credit report cleaned up with all negative entries removed; charge-ffs and collections wiped out. Now: Jan 2024 my score is Equifax 801| TransUnion 808| Experian 811. Yes, it feels good to have a worthy credit profile. I want to use this time to appreciate DOVLY CREDIT SOLUTION for bringing me out of a bad credit report that made my life miserable. My goal is to also obtain higher limits 5K-10K on CC which has finally been achieved. I’m happy to have come across DOVLY CREDIT SOLUTION here, you can contact them by email: DOVLYCREDITSOLUTION@GMAIL.COM Or text 1+ (713) 396 5299.

  10. In Oct-Nov I rented a storage unit from public storage with the intention of it being held for a month. In December I left for vacation. The situation changed during that time so I would need it for 3-4 months. My business partner assumed I had payments handled, I assumed it was handled or on autopay and everyone just forgot about this unit that I stupidly opened under my personal name. Account was never placed on autopay; the rep opened the account and put the wrong phone number when we signed up and all emails ended up in our assistant’s spam box. Long story short, the unit was auctioned and a couple hundred dollars’ worth of debt in fees etc. were accumulated besides the 2 months that were not paid. Public storage sold the debt to a collection agency (Allied Interstate) who told me I had until 2/14 to respond to DV. This situation caused damage to my score. My Fico 8’s was in the mid-500's and I do have some baddies (90 days on multiple student loans from 2018/2019) and a couple of charge offs from that same period but I don’t have any collection accounts. It’s been years since I’ve made a careless mistake like this, and I was really looking forward to getting my credit back to standard. I decided to go through online and luckily for me I came across DOVLY CREDIT SOLUTION. I have no other option than to give him a try, he told me he’ll fix my credit report within 8 days. He succeeded in raising my score to 811 excellent score and he also helped me delete negative items impacting my credit report. DOVLY CREDIT SOLUTION is the best and swift. Contact him by email: DOVLYCREDITSOLUTION@GMAIL.COM / +1 713 396 5299.

  11. Hello! I’m Grace, my experience working with DOVLY CREDIT SOLUTION has been outstanding. I was at 561 Equifax, 563 TransUnion. I had 1 collection a year 2 months with a balance of 585, 2 charge offs one at BOA CC at $1,228 closed June 22 was still being reported as of 01/24, SYNCB/PP at $1534 closed on 07/22 last reported Dec 23. I was depressed, my mom had cancer, but I recently graduated college and just found a decent paying job. Didn’t know what step to take to get my credit back on track. I was introduced by my realtor agent Daniel. I must confess I had a bad experience in the past with different agencies trying to clear my credit. I have gained good credit ever since I started working with DOVLY CREDIT SOLUTION. My credit score has been raised to 808 Experian, 801 Equifax and 806 TransUnion within 8 days. Thanks to my realtor Daniel for recommending DOVLY CREDIT SOLUTION to me. Contact them by email: DOVLYCREDITSOLUTION@GMAIL.COM / Phone +1 (713) 396-5299.

  12. Today I called PINNACLE CREDIT SPECIALIST and asked to have my BK7 removed from my CR, and they did. It was scheduled to fall off next year. So that’s that. A horrible chapter in my life but I’ve come out on top. So much wiser, better prepared for the future, and peace of mind where finances are concerned. Thanks to this forum and the good folks that spend their time here to share their experience and share the knowledge they got from PINNACLE CREDIT SPECIALIST. Thank you PINNACLE CREDIT SPECIALIST for all your assistance, guidance and cheerleading. Especially in the early days of my rebuild. With my scores now in the 800’s I’m tempted to app just to know I’d likely be approved, but there’s nothing I need right now. A sincere thanks to all of you! Contact them by email: PINNACLECREDITSPECIALIST@GMAIL.COM / Or call +1 (409) 231-0041.
