I had one before this one, and it got totaled in a wreck, but it sold me on getting another one because it was that reliable for me. I'm not the best at keeping track of my gas mileage, but I'm thinking on the low 30's end of things for in town driving. Maybe upper 20's at the worst.Catholic Mutthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10254315970336710941noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6378450001604002654.post-2544163152200175972012-10-21T10:08:02.122-04:002012-10-21T10:08:02.122-04:00I drove an '87 Honda Civic hatchback for 24 ye...I drove an '87 Honda Civic hatchback for 24 years, including many trips between Pennsylvania and Illinois. Great car, low maintenance cost (things rarely went wrong), great mileage (close to 40 mpg highway). Loved the hatchback for its ability to cart home cool "finds" from the side of the road (think shelves, dressers, patio chairs, misc. building supplies, etc.).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6378450001604002654.post-2955239936384286822012-10-21T08:50:13.875-04:002012-10-21T08:50:13.875-04:00Justin's sister had a corrolla (98) that she d...Justin's sister had a corrolla (98) that she drove into the ground. It lasted forever. We were lucky to find a "basic" model recently when looking for a commuter car. It has no power anything and a standard transmission, but it's perfect and we love it. I can't say anything bad about it and I did a lot of research on these kinds of cars. We also have a Honda CRV and looove that. You can't go wrong. I'd go with a Toyota or Honda because their resale value is always going to be slightly higher. I think it was up to 135,000 miles or so at that point. I loved that car and its wonderful gas mileage. It claimed 28 city/35 hwy and that was pretty accurate. I'm one of those crazies who tracks mileage every. single. tank. and for years, I averaged just over 30mpg. Now I have a minivan and 19mpg. I get 25-30 miles per gallon, depending on where & how I am driving. The trunk is huge, but no latch system for the car seat. We've only had to replace the battery, tires, brakes and one hose through the years (bought it from my dad in 2003, who bought it new). We did just choose, in March (?) to sink $1000 of minor/preventative maintenance into it, hoping that buys us a few more years (instead of buying a new used car).
