We got our chicks today!

When you watch your children learn something new, do something for the first time, be gentle and loving, marvel at all the tiny wonders of this world, your heart...it just...well, it swells up so fast that it really does hurt a little.  A sweet, glorious hurt of gratitude and hope.  Hope that they can hold on to that magical curiosity.  Hope that you can keep being a part of it.

  2. You should totally do it! They are even cuter and more entertaining in person, and actually really easy to care for :)

  5. I've always wanted to raise chickens, but, alas, we live in a very urban area. And, when we bought our house, we were required to sign (I kid you not) a "no-livestock" paper. I agree that it is such a hopeful thing to watch your children behave so tenderly; kind of tells you that maybe *some* of your nurturing to rubbing off on them. Congrats on your new additions!

  6. @Mary Kate- oh yes, our last neighborhood was like that. I totally understand! We weren't allowed to have a clothes line in our back yard because it might disturb the aesthetics for the neighbors.

@Rachael & Paula- thank you! They are such good kids :)

  8. Even though I do not like chickens ( because of a mean rooster on my childhood farm), I find chicks adorable at a distance. Your images truly capture precious moments. You are a wise mom to recognize the importance of holding these moments close to your heart. You'll need to remember them when your kids are teens.

Anyway, I've been reading all about your great Michigan adventure on your blog and enjoying it so much!! I can't wait to see how your garden turns out!!
