Happiness Is a Monkey Butler

This morning I read an article about how stay at home moms need help and shouldn't be ashamed to ask for it.  All I could do is nod knowingly in appreciation and share a little happy sigh of contentment.  And do you know why?  Why I was so knowing and appreciative and happy and content?

Leo.

Oh Leo, when you arrived at my home with that calm, confident smile on your face, I knew everything was going to be alright.  I knew that my savior had finally made his appearance.  My bon bons and my stories lovingly called my name!

I am not kidding, you guys.  That monkey got RIGHT to work.
First tending the garden, then gathering the eggs.  Then it was high time we ran some errands...

If you have never been chauffeured by a monkey, my friends, then you haven't lived!  Oh me, oh my, it was a true joy.  The bank, the ice cream shop (what?  That's an errand if you have to get ice cream!), the monkey so astutely grabbing the schedule for the Allegan County fair.  He's a party animal, what can I say?
I did let him have a bit of the delectable dairy treat before he started his babysitting shift...because I am so stinkin' generous like that.

Did I mention that he took care of the chickens, too?
Well he totally did.  And even when that fat yellow one tried to EAT him, he did not shirk his duties.

And for all his hard work, his super-de-duper butlering skills (hold on.  What do butlers do?  Does anyone even have butlers anymore?  Do they drive vans and gather eggs and get eaten by large hens?)...
....he was rewarded with Wacky Tire-Swingathon 2011.

Leo, whatever shall I do when you go to your next foster home?  I'll have to pick tomatoes and serve grapes and drive my own vehicle again.  Say it ain't so!

Patty, I do believe he's on his way to you next.  Prepare thyself for a little manna from heaven!

To read more about Leo's magical journey across America (and Canada) and maybe even sign up to foster him yourself, visit his original mama Deb McCormick  (who still manages to be fabulous after having 6 kids...3 of whom are triplets.  I know.  I KNOW!).

If you could have a monkey butler for a week, what chore would you have him do first?

  1. What a kind monkey! So generous with his time!

My brother and I tried to do this with a pair of teddy bears when we were little. Sadly, we never saw them again. Looks like Leo's adventure is much better documented!

  2. Hmm, I think a monkey butler would have to help raise antennas & install radios.

He looks like a lot more fun that Flat Stanley - because Stanley is just, you know, FLAT!!

  3. I thought FOR SURE that the monkey and the donkey would have gotten into some sort of hijinks together. And if Leo had been Lea I would have expected a love story :)

  4. My children did demand some of this "action" but my husband was indisposed with his guitar building. Lame!

  5. If Leo the butler possessed carpentry skills, he could build closets for me. If he possessed decorating and math (mostly math) skills, he could choose window treatments for the windows I am covering with cardboard because I haven't, ah-hem, selected window treatments.

He sounds like a fine, fine butler.

  7. I automatically thought of his superiority to Flat Stanley. Boy I loved that book. Tangent: when I taught 2nd grade we did a Flat Stanley project. I think it was 2002. One of my students' Stanley was put in a box with a bunch of things for her and sent in the mail...the postal service deemed it a suspicious package and blew it up!

  20. Hm, I don't need any mommy help. And, my husband does 99% of the housework (nope, not joking). Does the fleecy primate drive stick? Then I would love for him to drive me to school. While at school, he could rock the copier! (I don't have a copy mom just yet.)

  26. Wow....I'll be keeping an eye out on the highways and by-ways leading here. I so need someone to "hang" with (insert monkey humour) to help me get past my summer slump.

I hope Leo likes Jack Daniels.....

  29. Perhaps your monkey was educated at Wainwright’s Monkey Butler Academy.
www.wainwrightsacademy.com Check it out. It is very funny.
