So I'm on Pinterest and it's way too late and I'm thinking I could go to bed or I could start writing these, (which you are now reading tomorrow, but really it's Thursday night) and suddenly I see this and I know I have to say something to the publishers of Real Simple magazine:Y'all.
Be.
Trippin'.
A dusty candle? A dusty CANDLE? A DUSTY CANDLE?!?!? That cannot possibly be a thing that you real grown-ups worry about. Can it? Please tell me, given an extra 15 minutes of free time, that you would never dream of using it to track down an old pair of pantyhose, shove a candle inside of them and then remove said candle and say "Ah! That's better! Dust free...finally." Tell me this very second!

Wait, what? Oh my gosh. That means I'm the absolute worst housekeeper in the history of keeping house. Seriously. Because I can't even keep our bookcases, which are actual things that I've considered dusting in the past, dust free. Not to mention baseboards. Not to mention candles.
(3)
Anyway, you know what? None of that even matters. Doesn't. Even. Matter. And do you why? Yes, I believe you do. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes you do! Because I inundated you on facebook AND twitter all last week with this happy, joyful, glorious fact and I'm about to do it again. 'Cause this is my blog and I do what I want....
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>He Got The Job!<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Oh my gosh. So happy. And not even in Lansing or anything stressy like that. Right here in Kalamazoo! At a private-not-government company!
So thank you, thank you, thank you for all your prayers of supplication. And for all of you that prayed requests for us, will you say a quick prayer of thanksgiving? We wouldn't want Sts. Joseph and Cajetan et. all. to feel unappreciated or let our hearts forget to be appreciative at a time like this.

so.....yay!
(sorry. I just can't stop thinking about it)

Speaking of the hubby- here's a conversation we had the other night:
Lizzy: Aw, she's cute like an elf...
Tommy: Alf? Yeah, she kind of does look like Alf.
Me: ALF? Alf's not cute. What are you talking about? He has that weird bumpy nose.
Tommy: Yes he IS cute. I love Alf. What are YOU talking about?
Lizzy: What are you BOTH talking about? I said "elf". Who the heck is ALF???
Oh my gosh, we're so old.

Hey, so yesterday I announced the winner of the curriculum giveaway, and was reminded to ask all of you experienced homeschoolin' moms to check out the comments on the original giveaway. There are a lot of moms just entering the exciting world of learnin' their youngins and they are NERVOUS. Will you throw some encouragement and some advice their way?And also, if you read the response to the mom who struggles to manage her kids during Mass (lots of awesome tips in the comments section there, too), you might take a gander this snazzy tote from Catholic Child.
Do we love it? Yes, I believe we do!

Subject change alert.
Yesterday
at naptime, I laid the baby (who turns 3 months old tomorrow) down "just real quick" so I could put
Cecilia in bed, intending to come back and change her and then put her
down for a nap too.
Do you KNOW what I found when I returned?
snazzy attire courtesy of the always stylish Cari Donaldson |
Yes! An already sleeping baby.
Oh sweet, merciful Lord....you have really taken pity on this poor soul, haven't you?
The last photo? Has happened to me too on a few occasions. It's like they know Mama needs a break. Bless 'em.
ReplyDeleteOMG I think ALF when I hear elf too!
Yay for job-getting!
When my candles get dusty I, oh, you know, BURN THEM.
ReplyDeleteUse the object for its intended purpose? That's unpossible!!!
Congrats Tommy.
Thank you good St. Joseph.
Mary has awesome taste in sleepwear.
My husband said, "Remind me to dust the bookcases before she comes over, just to be safe." :-)
DeleteYAY! Thank you good St. Nicholas! This is such good news!
ReplyDeleteThank you for letting those of us not on FB or Twitter know he got the job!!! I kept thinking about your family. God is so good!!!!
ReplyDeleteI could live without twitter, but FB? Nevah! Then I'd have to---gulp---*talk to family members on the phone*. Noooooooooooooo!!!! The phone = the devil!
DeleteCongrats on hubby's job!!! And you were sooo down just a few days (a week or so??I am so terrible with time...lol) ~God is GOOD!!! As for twitter, I tried, i really really did, but it just doesnt do a thing for me...usually leaves me with a headache trying to figure it out...LOL...I think I need a FB intervention though~my 'puter seriously needs to go in the shop, but I keep putting it off because I know I will be a week or so with out FB!! The horror!!! LOL!
DeleteThis is the first time I've commented on your blog, but I just wanted to let you know that I was praying for your husband's job situation, and I am so happy for you that he got the job! St. Joseph is my favorite - he got a job for my husband this summer, too!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rebecca! I was pretty pathetic the morning we got the call. He took pity on the sobbing woman :)
DeleteI'm so glad to hear about the job!
ReplyDeleteCongrats about the job. Thank you St Joseph. Dusting candles I guess I should be thankful I don't own many (advent candles most years is about it) The last photo is so so cute and great weeks are so nice. My little guy (10 months now)is leaving the cute baby stage for mobile baby oh what can I get into now stage.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your husband's job!! And double congrats that it's near you.
ReplyDeleteYou mean we're supposed to clean baseboards? Whoops.
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS on your husband's job!
well, I was reading your post while still drinking my first cup of coffee so my brain was fuzzy - I thought you were saying that dusty candles were "in" - finally, my house is stylish - then I finished the sentence - oh well, time to go get my pantyhose and whack a leg off
ReplyDeleteYayayayayayayayayay! OK that's me being all happy happy with you.
ReplyDeleteAnd, yeah, I look at my dusty candles and think hmmmm, hope it doesn't blow when I burn that sucker.
Alf?! LOLOLOL I love Alf only because he wants to eat cats and I'm desperately afraid of cats.
Yaaaay for the job!
ReplyDeleteCandle cleaner: not even on my radar! Lol
Congratulations to your hubby on the job!! And while I actually dust our candles, it's because they are easier than the multitude of bookcases and other stuff in the house. Candles and baseboards is about it- then I feel all accomplished like and can easily ignore everything else.
ReplyDeleteDear Supermama,
ReplyDeleteIn response to your request for encouraging new and most awesome homeschool mamas, I just started a series (two posts into it)Homeschooling Simplified, which will probably be from ten to fifty posts long running from two weeks to two years. Just gonna roll with it. Geared towards the early years of home education. Simplifying the day to day, encouragement and joy is the goal of this series. PM
Congrats on the job!! I am so happy about that because (I know this sounds dumb) but it's not often that I pray for something (repeatedly, really putting in the time) and it HAPPENS. Prayer isn't a vending machine, y'know? But THIS DID. So it was really a blessing to me too, because I really feel like God was listening!!
ReplyDeleteYou know what else removes dust from candles? A damp rag. Wiping them off with a damp rag works just fine and you don't have to hack up a pair of panty hose (who has panty hose anyway? I wear tights.). I do have dusty candles in the bathroom and every time I see them, I think: "Hmm. I should dust those with a DAMP RAG." And then I flush the toilet and leave the bathroom (after washing my hands, of course) and go and do something more important, like reading Dwija's 7 Quick Takes.
ReplyDeleteYay for new jobs and good weeks and dusty candles!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have ever owned panty hose in my entire adult life. I am getting so much great stuff from your blog for homeschooling and mass attendance with little ones and general awesome catholic stuff. Thanks for making MY week better!
ReplyDeleteYou know what I don't dust? Everything. I blow. If I feel like it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you're from MI?? I'm new around here, excuse me. Ah. My sweet Mitten. I miss you!
Congratulations on the job!!!
ReplyDeleteYay! So happy about the job!! I was really thinking about your family after your post saying how stressful it all was, and I can only imagine the relief you must feel now. So thats exciting stuff!
ReplyDeleteSo happy! So, so HAPPY!!! Teary eyes and prayer of thanksgiving going up!
ReplyDeleteYay! Happy Friday! Thomas used to remind us of Alf the way he would watch the cats walk across the room with a hungry intensity and his mouth slightly open... Oh, and a dusty candle? Umm who cares? Now if I could put the piano in an old pair of pantyhose then "voila!" no more dust, that would be cool.
ReplyDeleteYAAAAAAAYYYY! So happy for you all! Thank you Lord!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Tommy for getting the job and congratulations to you for supporting and lifting him up while he found the best job for your family. I'm thrilled for you all. Got a similar sitch over here...heading back stateside by Christmas. WHOOOP!
ReplyDeleteYou're coming home! Yeeeeeehaw! :D
DeleteCongrats on the Job!! I finally clicked over here to check you out after being reccomended by countless people to do so. So glad I did!
ReplyDeleteSmall world! I was born in Kalamazoo. I live in Tennessee now. :) Congratulations on the job! So glad that worked out.
ReplyDeleteYay!!! A job!!! I am so very happy for you both!!!
ReplyDeleteYay! So happy for you.
ReplyDeleteYay! So happy for you.
ReplyDelete*scoff* You clearly have no idea how to clean properly. It's a good thing Pinterest exists...
ReplyDeleteAnd congratulations!! On the sleeping baby. (oh and the job thingy. but more the sleeping baby)
Awesome! God provides!
ReplyDeleteAnd your baby is adorable...
And thanks for the Catholic Child link! What a great site. I showed it to my mom, who works in a Catholic bookstore, and she's excited to show her boss some of the items on the site.
Happy day happy day! (again, lol)
ReplyDeleteThe little geek in me can't help but be tickled that our daughters have the same birthDAY if not the same birthMONTH.
Happy 3rd and 4th birthdays to our angels.
PS: We ALF fans are NOT old.
ReplyDeleteHere, here! ALF rocks, and we're all still young enough to appreciate his awesomeness.
DeleteAhhhhh! So happy for you guys! A new job? A sleeping baby? honestly, I don't think it gets any better than that...:)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the job, Tommy (and family)!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the hubs! :D
ReplyDeleteAlso, on number #1: I don't dust anything, let alone my freaking candles. Martha Stewart is appalled by it but somehow I manage to sleep at night anyways.
YAY on the job! YAY on a sleeping baby! Prayers of thanksgiving all round! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout out for us over at Catholic Child, Dwija!
ReplyDeleteHappy Fall!
Oh! Oh my goodness! I missed the happy news!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to you all! Thanking God and all the Saints who have surely been praying for you!!
xoxoxoxoxo
I can never get enough of the sleeping baby pics. And just plain quit buying candles like that in favor of the easily dustable glass jar kind :)
ReplyDeleteSOOO happy for you guys!! Yes, I'd say that was the best week ever.
ReplyDeletexo
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd for the record, I agree about the candle. "Real Simple" magazine seems to me as if it should be called "The Kind of House You'd Have if You Were Rich and Had SErvants." But maybe that's just me...
Hah! Yes. "Real Simple" can also mean "Not at all Simple" apparently.
DeleteI just love it when that happens! Except, oh wait, that never happens to me...she is so cute. And snazzy!
ReplyDeleteOh, congratulations! That's terrific news! About the sleeping baby, and about the job!
ReplyDeleteTrue Fact: I am a truly terrible housekeeper, not the kind who says "oh, my house is such a mess" and means "I haven't washed the windows in three days." And yet I do dust my candles on occasion. For I was a PartyLite consultant and carried a knee-high around in my candle party "kit" just to demonstrate proper candle care. You also should trim your wicks to 1/4" just before lighting and should "hug" your pillars for maximum burn.
What? Why are you looking at me like that? It's science.
What do you mean, "hug them"? While they're on fire? before? now and then? Interesting...
DeleteDwija, I really appreciated your encouragement a few weeks ago when I was freaking out about being due in March with #3. I want you to know that I don't generally care about other people's baby pictures (it is hard to when one's own children are the most genetically perfect humans evah), but yours just made me really glad that I'll have another newborn soon. And my youngest is only ten months, so it isn't like she's dusty like a candle.
