It's Beginning to Look a lot like my Favorite Time of Year! {p.h.f.r.}

{pretty}
I love this wreathe.  I love this door.  I love this wreath on this door.  The rustic and red, the happy welcome home.  While the world around us turns drab and grey and then covered in white, this is my beacon of warmth and happiness.

{happy}

Tree day has become such an exciting event since we've moved to Michigan.  For the third winter in a row we've gone out to Old Mister Paul's small tree farm.  We have to call him Old Mister Paul because Paul is Paul and Mister Paul goes to our church so it's Old Mister Paul who gives us our tree.

The kids dart in and out between them, sometimes hiding, sometimes tagging.  Last year there was snow.  We make our selection. OMP cuts it down for us.  We tie it to the roof of our van and write him a check for $20.  We've tried to give him more, but he won't take it.  $20!  For a 6.5 foot fresh cut Christmas tree!

{funny}
Katie won these stylish camo antlers in her CCD class last night (You got a pop quiz?  Sign that girl up!).  Paul was so, so, so, so enamored of them that he borrowed them.  And put them on. AND THEN SLEPT ALL NIGHT IN THEM AND GOT UP THIS MORNING IN THEM AND IS PICTURE HERE INVESTIGATING HIS ST. NICHOLAS DAY CANDY WHILE STILL WEARING THEM.  Clearly we have been wasting money on Hot Wheels.  Wasting, I tell you!

{real}

 Speaking of this morning, here's something.  Whenever I take a photo, I try to crop out the mess or move it out of the way.  I always imagine that everyone else's house is pristine and that I'd better pretend mine is too so you will think I am on TOP of this homemaking gig.  But I am not.  So not.

This is what the kitchen looked like when I walked into it this morning.  And it still looks like this...because I haven't cleared the breakfast dishes off the table yet.  Oh yes, it's about to get a WHOLE lot worse.  Yet here I am, clacky-claking away, decidedly not doing dishes.  Which I should be doing.  Or perhaps getting dressed.  Yes.  Either of those would be an excellent idea.

Maybe just one more cup of coffee first....

  2. Is it too snoopy that I zoomed in to see what kind of beer you are drinking...

    1. Hahaha! Hilarious! It's The Poet Oatmeal stout. From a Michigan brewery so I don't know if they sell it anywhere else but it is truly the only dark beer I've ever loved.

    2. Hmmm! Sounds tasty! The husband and I do some homebrewing and we picked up some empty boxes at the beer store the other day, and one had the same logo, so maybe we do get it out here!

  3. Someday my kitchen will be as clean as yours. Someday. Maybe.

  4. Funny- my kitchen like that is CLEAN. There are no spots on your counter, no random packaging (plastic cheese ends, milk jug rings, etc.)... awkward pots and pans that may never find a real home... nope. That kitchen is not dirty. That kitchen is definitely "decent"-- enough for people over, even. And I only have one more eater than you (#6,my baby girl, is only 4 months). You should see what mine looks like- BEFORE breakfast dishes also...

  5. love the wreath! and tree day is the best day of the holidays indeed! I love going to our local tree farm. Though it does cost a bit more than $20.00 --- but my real live tree has always lasted at least 3 weeks!

    the one thing that is clean is my kitchen. we have limited counter space, so I have to clean it up each night if I want to be able to make coffee and toast in the morning. but you probably don't want to walk barefoot on my floors. just saying.

    1. Completely empathize with the "non-barefoot friendly kitchen floor"!!! Stumbled into my own this morning in a "too early to be out of bed how will I make it through the day" haze and was quickly shocked awake by Lord-knows-what underfoot. Ugh.

  6. I wish I wish we had an Old Mister Paul. Sean and I got a grocery store cop-out this year for $15 because it's beginning to feel like they're gonna charge just for standing in our local tree farm. Sob. However our tree is a living tree so we're going to gift it to his parents after the season is over to be planted in their nice big yard. Kinda cool I thought.

    1. Thank goodness!!! If that was your sink after more than one day ... I could no longer be your friend, Dwija. I would feel too ashamed.

    2. Of myself, I mean. After all, I have two fewer children than you do, 3 fewer dogs, and my clean sink ... wait, there is no "my clean sink" in our house.

  9. I love your door and wreath. It really is a nice, warm welcome in cold, snowy Michigan.

  10. I LOVE that wreath! Ah, and I must tell you, I've always wanted a red door. *sigh*

    Also, I more than appreciate the picture of "real" kitchens. Take yours times 2 and you have mine most days ;)

  11. What a pretty red door and pretty red berry wreath! No worries girl... my kitchen sink has dishes that need doing too. And as I type this it's afternoon... oops. ;)

  12. If my kitchen looked like that I'd feel accomplished and would be calling it CLEAN! I know things "get better" as babies get older...but when does that start? Little man is 8 weeks old today.

  13. That doesn't look too bad especially the empty Poet bottles ;) Yumm!!

  14. Pretty wreath, love the boy in the antlers. I love when they get attached to something like that -- so cute.
