See, it would be one thing if she would come to our room and just insist on getting into our bed and sleeping. It would be another thing if she could only sleep in her own bed and insisted on being in there or never closing her eyes. It is an entirely different THIRD HORRIBLE thing when she walks all the way to our room, climbs into our bed, and then yells into my ear that she wants to sleep in her own bed and I should definitely get up and then get her up and carry her back.
I WISH I WAS JOKING.
Anyway, nothing works. We've tried all the things. That idea you just thought of? Yep, tried it. That other one, the one that involves a straight jacket? Apparently that sort of thing is frowned upon in proper society. Stupid proper society.
But hey! Yesterday was fun until bedtime!
Recipe for Combating Winter Funk

Add perfectly mixed gin & tonics (garnished with grapefruit)
And a loaf of homemade, hand-shaped sourdough bread
Serve alongside a pile of dear friends and their crew of children.
Repeat as needed.

That picture of Mary is so cute with her little tongue sticking out! I love it!
ReplyDeleteDelicioussssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOmg. Toddlers. Bedtime. (Gag me). So lame. I threaten to never sleep again, cause, well, let's just say I'm pleasantly surprised when I get four hours of uninterrupted sleep. Pleasantly. And that's just annoying overall but hey, maybe I can snooze in Heaven?
Oh man that brisket looks fab.
ReplyDeleteMy parents put a hook-and-eye lock on my brother's door and locked it from the outside. Childless people thought they were crazy. Parents thought they were geniuses.
We're going through the same sort of thing, to a much lesser extent. Is it the magic of 2-year-olds or the magic of Cecilias?
Yum!
ReplyDeleteBaby included. She is just too adorable.
Having just woken from a night of torture (I guess I should say "got up," since there wasn't much sleeping involved) I can totally relate. I will take one of each of the above photos, please and thank you.
ReplyDelete...remove door handles and replace at the TOP of the door.
ReplyDeleteHAHA!!! She's so flippin cute!!! And a sourdough loaf the size of a large baby is something I can get behind! But how do you do sourdough? Teach me wise one!!!
ReplyDeleteThat food looks amazing! My formerly sleep loving child went through months of crazy sleep rebellion at two, but a friend suggested the book Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child by Dr. Marc Weissbluth. It was a huge help.
ReplyDeleteBenadryl? For you, of course, ahem.... 'cause drugging your preschooler/toddler would be frowned upon. So, yah, for YOU.... :)
ReplyDelete"They are trouble making troublemakers! Free will is lame. "
ReplyDeleteBEST quote ever! As I sit by the bathtub...can little boys ever take a bath without becoming animals? Water everywhere!
I always know your post will make me chuckle. So sorry about the sleepless nights! Hopefully the Gin & Tonic helips!
ReplyDeleteSomeday, your little two year old will be a twenty year old and you will be regaling her with this story and you will laugh warmly about how difficult it was to get her to go to sleep when she was a little two year old. In the meantime, can I have your brisket recipe?
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. Please, please please invite me over for dinner next time! I second wishing for the recipes!
ReplyDeleteThat brisket looks awesome...and that's coming from the wife of a fire fighter who considers himself a connoisseur of kansas City barbecue! Toddlers and sleep...that's an oxymoron.
ReplyDeleteThe brisket looks delish! Do you have an easy and fail-proof recipe you could share? Please? Please?
ReplyDelete...also, is that a bottle of Jack behind the Brisket? :)
ReplyDeleteGold star detective!
DeleteThis too shall pass...I mean the brisket and bread...toddlers and sleep problems, those are yours for years to come!
ReplyDeletebrisket? oh just mmmm.
ReplyDeletealso, the bread? the gin? have a little extra for me :)
Food looks awesome! Insert unwanted suggestion ...have you considered melatonin supplements. Working very well with our three year old who asks for her "melatony." Ask your doc. They sell them cheap at Walmart.
ReplyDeleteYummy - food and drink! :) Baking and eating sound like a good solution to me!!
