What the Kids are Saying (7qt)

(1)
Welp, I kinda suck as a mommy blogger.  I had decided not so long ago to post newly taken pics of my kids every week.  How can I manage to take so few photos???  This is a problem.  Must solve.  Here.  How about a story about Mary in lieu of a photo?

Today I was changing her diaper before naptime and she, as usual, snatched a wipey from the the container and started wiping her face and hands while I worked on the less pleasant regions.
Me: wipe!
Mary: fish!
Me: say "wipe!"
Mary: fish!
Me: Okay.  Mary.  Say "puh"
Mary: PUH
Me: wi-PUH
Mary: PISH!

So, clearly she's well on her way to speaking by the time she's 32.  Good job, Borobias.

Hey, I can snatch things off of instagram, can't I?  Voila.  Photo of astoundingly verbal 18 month old and her delicious hairstyle for your viewing pleasure:

Yesterday Paul had a dentist appointment so I had to hustle everyone a bit in the morning.  Cecilia traipsed out of her room still in pajamas but holding a new pair of pajamas in her hand.

"Can I wear this genie costume to the dentist's office?"

Uh.  Whuh? No.  But yes, you can change into the "genie costume" when we get home.  Now quit stalling and put some clothes on!

And sure enough, the minute we got home....
Tada!  Obviously a genie costume.

Let's just keep going with the chil'ren stories, shall we?  Make up for my lack of adherence to my previous resolution.  End fancy talk.

Paul is 6 and he is a boy and he....has the sense of humor to match both.  Which means that his nightly performance of Dance Test Willy has not stopped entertaining him despite the fact that we, all the other members of the house, would not be sad if he increased his repertoire.

Dance Test Willy goes a little like this:

-Boy is instructed to change into pajamas (I'm starting to see a theme this week).

-Boy removes his clothing so as to put on pajamas but gets distracted while wearing only tiny Star Wars themed briefs

-Boy begins to dance his skinny spider-like legs around the room singing "Dance test Willy!  Dance test Willy!" at the top of his lungs.

-If given the chance, boy climbs onto the top bunk to continue his routine, attired still in nothing but underwear.

-Mother acts surprised and offended and insists he put his pajamas on rightthisverysecond and then proceeds to mumble "Dance test Willy..." for the rest of the evening.  Gives elder daughter permission to share this story with any and all future girlfriends of said brother.

That take was really long.  Let's count it for two, shall we?

A few weeks ago the big girls got to go to a birthday party for a friend from co-op (I don't know if I've mentioned how much I love our co-op despite the fact that it is our earliest day of the whole week, but I really do.) and they went to this paint your own pottery place.

So cute!  Love the color combo she chose.  The turquoise with red is one of my faves, as you know.

Do you SEE what she painted on hers?  Kanji.  Like, actual Japanese letters.  How does she even know real kanji?  Oh my gosh.  These kids.

    1. Seriously! We have an almost 6 yr old boy and his favorite nightly ritual is stripping down to his superhero briefs and racing from one end of the house to the other.

  4. Mary's starting out early as a hair-fashion trendsetter!

Those mugs are so cool. I've always wanted to try one of those paint-your-own-pottery places. Sounds like so much fun!

  5. In Cecilia's defense, Dora DOES look like a genie on those jammies.

  6. My son does a similar dance but with avengers underwear and his song is "im shaken' my bootie" I try not to laugh, but I think its so funny .

  7. Your daughters are both beautiful! And it just dawned on me that poor Paul is living in a totally girl household (unless your hubby is home). Takes me awhile, I know. The complete opposite of my 1-girl, 4-boy world. And I love me some boy-mom-ness.

  9. So funny and sweet. To aska. Totally un-hip question: is Dance Test Willy an actual thing, or something your brilliant son made up in his own mind? Whichever it is is funny, of course. I just wondered if my extreme-but-unintentional avoidance of all things pop-culture is leaving me out of the loop.

OMGee, your girls are so gorgeous and grown up! I think I say that all the time, but it really takes me by surprise. And tell Lizzy that Hangeul (Korean) is phonetic and way way easier than Kanji. Just sayin'. Also a little birdie told me that Rosie is doing a "things kid said" link-up next Monday. You're already done, you over-achiever, you.

    1. Ah, I'm glad you asked. Dance Test Willy is a creation out of my son's very own boy brain, but it SHOULD become a pop culture phenom. It should.

  10. Oh man I always have to try SO hard not to laugh when John Paul dances around in his teeny tiny star wars underwear... And he always makes up random chants that still get stuck in my head, too! I think when he and Cecilia were marching around chanting "Ca-te-chi-sm of the Cath-lic CHURCH!" was my favorite...

  13. Dying of laughter here reading about all these boys and their Chippendale moves... I have a 4.5 year old who strips waaaaaaay too well.

  14. Your Mary makes me feel a bit better about my Ambrose, who at 20 months will say shaew (shoe) and wail woad. Aaaaaand... that's about it.
