Help bring Brett home

It's been a while since I've honked the adoption horn up in this piece, but mostly that's because I haven't been doing much here at all. BUT.  I've gotten two different adoption help requests recently and I'm taking that as a sign that we better hop back on the train.

Okay, fine- enough transportation metaphors.

Yesterday I shared this couple's story over on the fan page and today I'm here to get you PUMPED about helping a sweet little boy with cerebral palsy bust out of his Eastern European orphanage for good and come home with his forever family.

This is Brett:

Brett is exactly the same age as my Paul.  Do you have a child born in 2007?  If you do, only imagine for a split second what it would be like for them to have lived their whole life without a parent's love.  And I say a split second because any more than that will surely send you into a spiral of sadness and we can't have that right now because what we need now is action.

HERE'S THE DEAL:

In just 2 weeks his potential forever family is traveling to Europe to adopt another child, a child they've been planning to adopt for a long time.  If they can raise just $3500 more, they can bring Brett home as well.   That is good news.

The REALLY good news is that there is a magical $1,000 matching grant waiting out there for Brett, which means that every dollar up to $1,000 that is donated right now will be doubled.

You guys.  We have 6 days to raise enough money for Brett to finally have a real home and to experience the love that only a family can provide.

6 days.

What money were you planning to spend in the next 6 days that you can forego?  If there's nothing you can spare (and I know, sometimes there really, really isn't), please pray.  Share his story.  Do whatever you can to be a part of a miracle.

And just in case you're wondering: when you're donating, the money is going through Reece's Rainbow and is allocated directly to Brett, so you can be sure that your generosity is being applied where intended.

So, go! Here is Brett's page. You can read more about him and donate in the same place.  Once his  grant amount reaches $11,713.75, it means the entire matching grant has been met.  I believe we can do it!  This community has come together and brought other children home already.  Let's make it happen again.

ETA: We have met the amount to get the matching grant.  Now let's hit $14K so that boy can be fully funded and come HOME!

  2. Thanks for posting! My older kids thought that was just awful this kid has always lived in an orphanage and never in a real home and so they both decided to donate their Give money from their allowance to Brett :) My 12 year old daughter was especially touched because she's a foster child and we're adopting her this year too. She was a waiting child, a random face on a list of kids on a website, and we saw her and inquired about her and ended up being chosen for her.

Does the family have a blog or anything for people to donate after the adoption? Because this kid is going to need lots of medical care and special services, not all of which will be covered by insurance I'm sure. Our daughter is just deaf with some learning delays and that alone has caused us to need to cover all sorts of extra therapies and for me to need to get trained in a special reading program to teach her to read. It always amazes me how much adopting an older child can cost in the little things :) It's different from adopting a tiny baby, all they need is a mommy, some bottles, and some diapers, lol!

  3. Thank you so much for sharing this! My Paul started his life in an orphanage, so I know firsthand how important it is that Brett makes it home with his family. We've been working hard to get him there, and your support is appreciated! -Meg

  4. Dear Dwija, Thanks for posting -- I just went and donated. I've been reading your blog for a few months now. I think I found you through Caleh Alexander's blog "Barefoot and Pregnant" on Patheos. God has certainly blessed you with a beautiful family. Kind regards, JoAnn

  6. Hey, Dwija, am I missing something? Because Brett's page says this: "$12,652.71 has been donated towards the cost of my adoption!" So he's already $938.36 over the target amount? And they don't need any more money? Dang, your blog is powerful!
