big kids

I just want to tell you a story.

The other night the big girls and I prayed together and I sent them up to bed, planning to go up in a few minutes, as they like me to do, to tuck them in and kiss them good night.

Out of the corner of my ear I kept hearing muffled giggling, but I didn't pay much attention as I was distracted by something probably super duper important on the Internet. Well, when I finally started up the dark staircase, whom should I find at the top of the flight but my two teenaged girls huddled in the dark, laughing their butts off over ???________________???
"We feel like (giggle snort) SpongeBob and Patrick when they were (guffaw) stuck in the treehouse for three days...!"
Dorks!

So I plucked the sleeping 5 year old from the 14 year old's bed (the reason for their failure to enter the bedroom to begin with) and deposited her in her own, told the big ones to scurry their shenanigan-loving hinies under their covers and was about to switch off the light when....

"Goodnight, Patrick!"
"Hey, why am *I* Patrick???"

These children, y'all.

Anyway, in case you wonder what happens off the screen. What can't really be captured in a tweet or IG snap. What probably can't even be shared well enough here, in the very place words are supposed to make people understand these things, well, there it is. Just a little peek at the simple, everyday ness that childhood memories are made of.

p.s. thanks so much for all your congrats and prayers on IG and twitter and facebook.  They are SO appreciated.  We feel extra blessed. And in case you missed it, I'm not eating wasabi peas for nothin'! #dueMay4th

  1. Congratulations! We're due with number seven in March. One thing I love about Catholic mom blogs is that there are always a few "preggo buddies". Our church doesn't have any large families so all my friends and family have stopped having kids :(

  4. So excited and happy for you Dwija!! I hope you write a little about what its like for your family to grow at this stage, I just had my third, and my oldest is 3, so imaging family growing with a bunch of big kids to help out sounds like a dream! Although I am sure it has its own challenges! Prayers for your little one! Asking the intercession of little St Nicolas!!
