Tap tap tap....

Yesterday I posted the cutest (if I do say so myself) photos and videos of Nel on Instagram (even if you're not "on" instagram, you can see them here) and was reminded that blogs exist and could I pretty please write on mine?

The truth is that I've been mulling over hopping back in to the fray, but it just feels so big and cumbersome.  I gotta open the door and walk through it and everyone else is chatting and and busy and then someone turns around and is like "Dwija!  Where have you beeeeeeeeeen?" And how do I even answer that, you guys?  I've been nowhere.  Everywhere.  I've been right here the whole time.  Boring life stuff that's really wonderful but you put it in a blog post and it's like.....uh, so what?  GIVE US SOMETHING GOOD LADY.

Does it sound like I've been drinking?  I have not been drinking!  Also, I can't find my not-phone.  It looks like an iPhone but it doesn't actually make phone calls.  It's really just a tiny computer that I use for taking too many photos and posting on the 'gram when I have access to wifi.

Oh my gosh.  God hid my not-phone so that I would have to get online and write this in order to communicate with the outside world. Doesn't He appreciate my neuroses and general anxiety about walking into a crowd and not being as awesome as I imagine other people want me to be?  Pride, thou fiend.

No but honestly, I have not been drinking.  Swearsies.  Which is sort of a miracle because drinking is fun and it's July and I have 7 kids.  Grace for the win.

So.  There's too much.  Can I just stop here?  I'll stop here.

And now I'll say that if you give me ideas of what to write about, that will really help me.  This haystack just has too many hays in it.  The haystack being my brain and the hays being my thoughts and junk.

Wow.  So English.  Many fancy talk.

  1. Love your posts, no matter what they are! I raised 5 kids and every word you print reminds me of the happy and not so happy times. I just started instagram (I follow on my laptop because I am old and don't have a smart phone) - but love the words, too. Welcome back - prattle on, dear one!

  3. Here's what I'd like:

    Pretty pictures of your garden
    Cute pictures of your kids
    Funny things Cecilia has said

Also remember when you used to link up with What I Wore Sunday? Well, that linkup died but I do one now for Sundays and you should totally link up for old time's sake!

  6. I want more posts like this because I've missed your writing voice - it feels a little strange and stalkerish how I feel like I know the women whose blogs I read. My husband totally doesn't get it but opening up my Feedly and seeing someone else out there in a similar situation just talking about the boring stuff of life or the funny things kids do or say or the problems they're tackling really helps me feel not so alone during the day (and has inspired me to open up more quickly to in real life friends - if you guys can share on the internet I can certainly be vulnerable too!)

  7. Oh, gosh. Just tell us about your day. It's so lonely being a homeschooling mom of seven (and, it's also ironic to say that it's lonely when you're surrounded by what seems like a million people sometimes) and, like Tara, sometimes to read a blog like this is like opening the door to find a good friend standing there.

  9. Ideas for blogging: What is Nel doing now? What funny things have the kiddos been doing? Has ThatDonkeyGuy been to visit the new bubs? What are your 5 favorite things that have helped you get through the summer so far?

Hope to hear more from you! You've been missed. :)

  10. I've been wondering about your hair :-) I had a baby two summers ago and I commiserated when you were talking about postpartum hair loss with John Charles. Now I'm 3 months postpartum (March 14!) and I'm balding once again. Tell me you finally discovered a cute hairstyle for flat, thin hair!! Bangs, no bangs?? I'd also love to hear about your garden (have you ever cooked with squash blossoms?) and mom fashion :-)

  13. You're back! But it's okay you've been gone. I've slacked on reading blogs for the longest time. But I love instagram. More about Mary! I remember when she was born. And not that you'd remember but randomly, I still have the rosary I bought with the gift certificate I won from your contest to your relative's online Catholic shop that closed. It hangs in my car on the rear view mirror. :)

  14. I'm happy to see you back too! I especially love reading about home improvements, homesteading (i.e. gardening, etc.), anything fashion or food related, but I also love any and all of your posts! That's probably not very helpful though, lol.

I think you have a real knack for writing, and so it doesn't really matter what you write about, just that you write! :)

  15. I really want to know what your schedule looks like daily. I'm only homeschooling 2 +have a toddler but they're in the tiresome phases where you can't really leave them Much to their own devices (4+5) and it always feels like I'm leaving something undone. If I keep on top of housework, I neglect homeschooling+vice versa. Husband says I need a schedule but where to start. Life with smaller kids doesn't really schedule Well. I have tried. So obviously I think you're super woman. Your house mostly looks organised and tidy which is not something I can say for my own at least 6/7 days of the week. Give me all your advice. I'm all ears.

    1. I can try to talk about this a little more, but truly the answer to this question is "I have 4 kids who are pretty old." Well, my 6 year old is only 6. But she is the kind of 6 who is helpful and competent and doesn't dump stuff out! That leaves only three major mess makers running around compared to five mess cleaners (including me) and that's honestly the only way we make it work. When my big kids are out of the house? Destruction. It is total destruction around here!

  16. Just glad you are back! :) Write about anything and everything. And seriously, those rolls are super scrumptious. SUPER scrumptious. Love her!!!! (And all of you!!) You know the other day the memory of when you were pregnant with John Charles and you thought maybe you were pregnant with twins at one point because you were measuring big and we all held our collective breath while you had another ultrasound to confirm...that is why I love blogging! :) I have never met you in person but consider you a friend and love seeing glimpses of your life and your kids/DH. And I never forgot how you rallied the blog community to pray for my pregnancy with Katharine. That meant SO.MUCH!! Thank you!!!!!

  17. We've missed you!!! I am always a sucker for home improvement posts so if you've got anything in the works or planned for the future, that's what I'd love to read from you. Maybe it would motivate me to take better pictures and blog about our projects myself! :)

  18. I have a request. I know from Insta that you are doing Trim Healthy Mama (I'm @goldiekl) and I wonder this: how do you "diet" and explain to your big girls what you're doing WITHOUT making it seem like size/shape/physical appearance are the most important things and that skinny is best and should be everyone's goal. That's sort of my inner monologue, but I can recognize that it's not good and I certainly want my daughters to have a different monologue that involves a bit more self-love than mine. So mostly I talk about eating healthy food and exercising...but I haven't done something as restrictive as THM, and also my girls are only 6 and 3 so they are not paying that much attention to what I'm eating. I am so interested to hear your take on how you address weight loss/health/wellness with your big girls!

  21. Blogging is something like confession. The less often you do it, the less you can think of to say.

  22. OhMyGoodness, I was gone camping all summer and am just now getting caught up on my emails and I am CRACKING UP over this post, mainly because of your "not phone," which is so obviously what I also have, in addition to my "dumb phone," which is the one that actually makes the phone calls. My brother-in-law generously passed along his old iphone to me when he got an upgrade and so now I can do the fancy stuff when I have wifi, too. fist bump
