Nicholas

"Who can face a tragedy? No one. No one can face a tragedy. Only God can face a tragedy.  He gives us His grace so that He can face the tragedy for us."

Our pastor sat with us in our hospital room on Monday and we talked.  Long and hard.  A rambling talk.  Stream of consciousness.  Moments of tears from all of us.  Even moments of laughter.  A reprieve from the crushing pain that left my dear husband and I nearly without words for each other.  So even in just saying those words, our pastor brought Jesus' grace to us.

Our youngest baby, Nicholas Robert Borobia, went home to Jesus on Monday, July 15th at the tender age of 21 weeks and 3 days gestation after surviving for seven weeks without amniotic fluid.

He had tiny ears and long fingers, just like his big brother Paul.

We all miss him so.  Please pray for us.  There's not much more I can think to say right now.  Thank you all for everything.

  32. Dwija, I am so so so sorry for your loss. I know you know we were all cheering for you every step of the way and will be there still to pray for you all. I am a new reader of your blog & new facebook friend. I have not lost a baby, and nothing compares to that, but I have come very close to losing my now 4 year old a few times.

    I am sure you will be in a fog for a while. I wanted though to offer what I could to try to help in a small way...

    The prayers that have been a source of comfort for me have been (and are) this from the Divine Mercy:

    Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.

    I say it repeatedly and I also very frequently recite just a few lines of the anima christi:

    Passion of Christ, strengthen me
    O good Jesus, hear me
    Within Thy wounds hide me
    Separated from Thee let me never be

    I will continually remember and lift up you and your family in prayer. And I ask the Sorrowful Mother to comfort you. She is a great constant and mediating on her sorrows have helped me at my personal lowest moments when despair seemed so close. I wish I could offer you anything to make you feel less pain there at the foot of the cross--Jesus is right there with you. Sending love.

  35. I'm so sorry ... It is amazing you found any words to share with us at all - God bless you! Prayers for little Nick and for all of you. A thought that has often helped me in hard times .. "I know by experience that in hours of trial certain graces are obtained for others that all our efforts had not previously obtained. I have thus concluded that suffering is the higher form of action, the best expression in the wonderful communion of saints and that in suffering such one is sure not to make mistakes ( as in actions sometimes)..” ~ Elizabeth Leseur ...when we hurt so much we can't put words to - when " We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. (ROM 8:26)" in these times we are doing more good for the world than we could ever imagine ... this idea is a comfort to me and I hope it will be to you as well.

  55. Dwija, I've had the pleasure of following your blog for a few months now. You've been in my prayers since your first posts about the struggles with Nicholas. I've been rooting for your family and will continue to do so. It's apparent that you're an amazing mom {not to mention a role model to other moms!}

    In some ways I know the struggles you're going through and have ahead of you. My husband and I lost our first son Seth Alexander at 28 weeks gestation on July 31st, 2009. Though no two situations are the same I can share in your pain. Just like Nicholas Seth was so perfect in every way. We had no idea his life would be cut so short. Seth now has two crazy little siblings. Parenting two children who are here and one angel baby is a challenge but also an amazing blessing. Though the pain of Seth's passing is so hard I'm honored to have the responsibility as his mommy to share our story and to find ways to give back. PLEASE let me know how I can help! I may be far away but owe it to you and our boys to keep you in my prayers and offer a listening ear {or anything else you may need.} Here's our story: http://mysonflower.com/ In the words of my priest "Please take comfort in knowing our little ones are enjoying the unimaginable happiness of Heaven!" ~Erica

  68. We've been praying for him every night and will continue to pray for all of you. He brought a lot of people together in a short amount of time to pray, to help, to reach out to people and did so without many of us ever having met each other. What an extraordinary, amazing little boy! And I have a feeling that many medical people are more educated because of him and other mommy's will learn from your experience and other little ones may very well live simply because of his example. I'd say he had a life well lived, even if way too brief. Hugs and prayers and tears for you all.

  111. Dwija,
    You now belong to a club, a small but significant club, one which no one wants to belong to: mothers who have lost a child. I am a member. Seventeen years ago, on July 3, 1996, my precious daughter was born and lived for 6 minutes before she succumbed to her fatal birth defect. The sorrow you feel now is unbelievable isn't it? You can't believe that you can hurt this much! But have hope! God is with you and you have a precious saint in heaven interceding for you at the Throne of Jesus. I will be praying for you and your family. God bless you!

  136. Nothing we say will take away the pain, but know you've got hundreds of people lifting you up in prayer (isn't being part of the Catholic circle awesome?).

    My own family lost two precious brothers, one at just 19 weeks, and I can remember it all (I was barely 12). My younger brother drew a picture of our two angel brothers up in heaven having a pizza party with great grandma. Though your pain is deep, may you rejoice and find peace in the fact that Nicholas is now being held by his Mama Mary in the presence of Jesus.

I love you and I know with all my heart and soul and BRAIN that the good Lord prepared a way for our families to be eternal, and you are most definitely one of His most favored and faithful disciples. While He cries weeps with you in agony, He is yet rejoicing with His tiny precious infant likeness, Nicholas. He rejoices to know that from baby Nicholas' perspective, he will be able to have Mommy and Daddy hold him again in the blink of an eye.

    Blessed are those that mourn...

    I promise you that for every second of terrific heartache you endure upon this Earth, once Home, you will have a thousand years of unspeakable joy and a thousand blessings in its stead. I promise you that!!

  151. Praying for all of you, Dwija. This is so difficult. My husband reminded me last night that the burial for little ones in the Latin Mass is called "The Mass of Angels", because the parents defer the raising of their little one to his/her guardian angel. May you all meet one day in Heaven.

  170. Dwija,

    congratulations on the birth of your son to the eternal love of our awesome God. From the diary of St. Faustina:

    Jesus, You have given me to know and understand what a soul's greatness consists: not in great deeds but in great love (Diary, 889)

    All Nicholas knew was love. All Nicholas was and shared with us - was love. All Nicholas will ever know, for eternity - is God's beautiful love.

    He is in God's hands - all hope is not lost.

    My soul is deprived of peace,
    I have forgotten what happiness is;
    I tell myself my future is lost,
    all that I hoped for from the Lord.
    But I will call this to mind,
    as my reason to have hope:
    The favors of the Lord are not exhausted,
    his mercies are not spent;
    They are renewed each morning,
    so great is his faithfulness.
    My portion is the Lord, says my soul;
    therefore I will hope in him.
    --Lamentations 3:17-18, 21-24

    God Bless!
