The other day I was contacted by a Catholic homeschooling mom who is also the co-founder of Connected in Hope Foundation, "a non-profit, social enterprise empowering women and families in Ethiopia to rise above poverty through sustainable income development, improved educational opportunities and increased access to basic health care" asking me if I would host a giveaway to help raise awareness about their organization. Triplequadruplequintuple yes I will, I says to her!
In Ryane's own words:
"We work with 70 women who once carried 75-80 pound bundles of fuel wood 10+ miles down the surrounding mountains (see attached picture) to sell in the markets in Addis Ababa for less than $1/day.
Now they are weaving beautiful scarves that we market here in the US. Our goal goes beyond charity, to the creation of a sustainable business model that honors and builds on the talent, commitment and creativity of our amazing weavers. Our goal is to provide access to international markets as well as the support, encouragement and training necessary for weavers to earn a sustainable and predictable income through sales of their hand-loomed scarves."
Connected in Hope is a non-profit and NO ONE on their U.S. staff takes a salary. 100% of the profits are reinvested in programs to support the artisans. This is the kind of organization I can really get behind.
Now one of you lucky readers is going to win your very own scarf from Connected in Hope just by entering using the snazzy Rafflecopter form below. And if you'd like to financially support the great work this program does, you can get free shipping on any order thru the end of May by using promo code FREESHIP2 at their online shop right here.
Not to throw anyone into a panic or anything, but Mother's Day is just two weeks away. TWO weeks. So...yeah. Enter the contest for yourself, but order something ( they have jewelry too!!!) for your mama today.
Enter from now until Friday at 12 a.m. and then I'll announce the winner in my Friday Quick Takes. Bueno? Bueno.
Good luck!
(note that there's a specific question to go along with the comment option on the entry form)

ReplyDeleteI love the Bethlehem in Cayenne!
ReplyDeleteSo hard to choose! I can always use another infinity scarf!
ReplyDeleteEven though I would LOVE to get the orchid color in either the Bole or Bethlehem Collection (because purple is my favorite) I'm going to be sensible and say Steel in the Bole Collection -- because it will go with just about everything and trying to match colors in the purple/orchid hue drives me nutz!
ReplyDeleteOh, this sounds great! I really like the Orchid infinity scarf.
ReplyDeleteI like things like this so much--there's a company called Sseko designs that is out of Uganda that does really cool sandals. LOVE them. I actually read a great book about it called "Half the Sky" a few years ago: it really changed my outlook. I would definitely recommend it, although it's difficult to read at points because of the gravity of the topics addressed.
ReplyDeleteOh! and if I were to pick one I'd pick the Ocean Blue. :)
Definitely the aqua bole scarf. Me gusta mucho.
ReplyDeleteCayanne Bethlehem scarf. THank you!!!
