Big Girl Camera! Wut Wut! {wiws}

Oh boy, you guys are going to hate me. I mean, soon. Not his second. Because soon you'll be all "wow, if that girl posts one more stupid picture of a cup or an apple or her eyeballs I am seriously never speaking at her again."

you thought I was joking about the apple, didn't you?

You know why?

I finally gots me my very own big girl camera! See, at Christmas time all sorts of folks get snazzy NEW technological goodies and then they sell their OLD ones on Ebay and Amazon.  And because a very clever girl once told me that the camera (as long as it's decent) itself is not as important as the lens, I went cheap and old- Canon Digital Rebel 300D. With the kit lens, battery, charger, USB cord, and carrying strap included, it was just $150 .  A really REALLY special purchase for me but a super good deal in terms of what I got.  Winning!  Someday, when I prove I'm worthy, I'll graduate myself to a snazzier lens.

Anyway, I have no clue how to use it.  Fine...HAD no clue.  But then I read the manual and I took photos non-stop for the last 24 hours (itty bitty pause for attending Mass.  Joy-kill husband claimed I wasn't allowed to take pics while receiving the sacrament.) and now I can actually take pics in manual mode that aren't blurry.  Baby steps, baby steps...

These are coming straight out of the camera (or "sooc", as photog peeps say.  Every hobby has it's own secret language  don't it?), no cropping or editing, because I want to be able to come back and look at these someday when I know what I'm doing and say "Hahahahaha!  I was like wittle baby pwaying wiff big kid fings".  And because I am lazy.

Hey it's also Sunday!  So I wore stuff!

Okay, so yes.  The ISO was too low.  Or something.  I'm pretending I know the words, but really I don't.  But it's dark.  Kinda moody and dramatic though, yes? No?

How about this, then?  Is this moody and dramatic?  Just bad?  Okay, fine.

Ropas:
Same Skinny jeans (Kohl's)
Same boots (Kohl's)
Striped oxford (J. Crew via Ebay)
Orange sweater (Ann Taylor Loft)

Fake boot socks (sleeves from a turtleneck)

The chandelier earrings of perpetual love.

Same 99 cent Goodwill belt.

Um, are you in love with my camera yet????

Do you want to see what Tommy made us for lunch???

Aren't question marks the best???

Okay, fine.  I swear I'll stop.  But I think I might just have to dust off ye olde Flickr account, yes sir.  Until then, hop over to Fine Linen & Purple for more outfits and fewer apples.

  1. I loved your outfit today! I am a closet orange lover but, sadly, cannot wear it. My wardrobe needs a serious overhaul.

  3. One of my New Year resolutions was to stop being lazy and taking camera phone pictures and get back to my big girl camera.
Then, The Jude BROKE MY NOT-PHONE, so it's a good thing I'd already made that resolution, because now I have to follow through on it!
We can learn how to use fancy cameras together!

  5. Ooooh you are in for some FUN, girl! :)

    Couple things--
-if you can, spring for a new lens ASAP. You will be shocked at the difference between a kit lens and a good lens.
-try shooting in Av mode instead of Manual, for starters. You'll get sharper shots and will learn fast. In Av mode, you are choosing how blurry you want your background. Smaller numbers (like 2.8) will have blurrier backgrounds than larger numbers (like 11). The camera sets the rest for you until you get the hang of it.
-read Scott Kelby. Just do it. :)
    -cute outfit!!! :)

  7. Woot woot for new cameras! There is this challenge that I do every month called ten on ten. It is one picture, every hour, for ten hours, on the tenth of the month. It is really fun and it brings small blessings into focus. I would love to see what you come up with. You caught the light in your daughter's eyes perfectly. And it is so true about the camera. The lens is what matters most, BUT BUT BUT ... the perspective is the VERY most important feature. If you have an eye for photography it doesn't matter what you use.

    Great post! Cute outfit.

    See ya around,
    Alita

    1. If I stick with it like a good girl, I'm hoping to go for the 50mm f1.8 next month if we can swing it. Super excited!

    2. Dooooo it! It's not peer pressure, just your turn. :-p Can't wait to see more photos, apples and all.

    3. Totally agree about the 50mm! Love it. Try to get the 1.4 if possible, but the 1.8 is good too if you want to save a little.

  11. I shoot with a Canon EOS 20D and love it. And, hey, I've had mine several years and not fully read the manual and don't shoot on manual.

It's not just the equipment that makes for great photos. It's also about skill, lighting, composition, creativity, perspective, angle, etc. You'll have so much fun. Just don't use flash, OK. Not unless you absolutely must, which should be hardly ever.

You got quite the deal on that camera. Go, girl!

  12. Oh you are going to have so much fun. And the apple, eye, or speck of dirt thing...it will totally rub off on your kids and one day you'll download about 6,852 pictures of your oldest daughter's eye and a couple of her ring just to mix it up.

  13. I got a new Canon for Christmas from my parents, and I'm so excited to start learning how to use it too! It looks like you're doing well so far :-)

I've never been able to pull off the sweater with a collared shirt look well. I think you nailed it!

    1. Okay, I've always sucked at putting those two things together, but then I realized that a) the shirt body and sleeves have to be really long (so you can see them properly) and the neckline of the sweater has to be really low (again, so you can see more of the shirt). Without those things, I always ended up looking like I was wearing a boarding school uniform or something. You know?

      Canon for the win!!!!!

  14. The big people camera is so much fun, isn't it? I should really work harder with mine in the manual setting, but even if I don't do all my photos manually, I will say just being able to focus manually makes all the difference in the world!

  15. Yay for a new camera!
I've been thinking lately that I should maybe get off Instagram and start taking like, real pictures with a real camera or something. But...technical. Scary. Oooooh.

  16. What a beautiful apple! Congrats on the new camera-you've inspired me to strive to take pictures on something other than my phone--which is all I've been doing lately.

  17. I got a Canon from my inlaws for my birthday in April, and I am still taking thousands of pictures of apples! You're going to have way too much fun with it!

Love the idea of making your own boot socks from a turtleneck!

  18. I have a Canon Rebel and use it on automatic. The best tip I have is that you should never use flash. Natural light is the best!!

  19. First of all can Tommy make me lunch? LOVE the boot socks I need to make some and the boots well I love boots in general! I got a new camera too we went the same route really nice lens decent body and I am having lots of fun too! Glad I found you through this meme.

  20. Heck yes to the lunch! Love those boots & the color of the sweater. Great earrings too!

  21. I had no idea you could get a Rebel for that great a price! Teach me your ways?

And I love that orange sweater. I think it's the boot socks, though, that make the outfit. Love em!

  22. Yeay!! You took the first step and read the manual! Good job! And you're right, the ISO was too low, but really, the higher the ISO, the grainier the picture. So my suggestion-- open more windows and bring in the light! Low ISO, sharp pic and you'll be a photog before you know it! :) also, love your outfit! Maybe when the children are back to health, I'll get back to participating in WIWS!

  23. Caught her dimple, caught her eyes, you are good. And you are not only lovely, but just look bursting with joy!

  24. Love this outfit! And I really need to get some fake turtle neck boot socks. However, my large calves are holding me back. I have a hard enough time just getting my boots on over my calves that I can only imagine the problems if I tried to include boot socks (real or of the turtle neck variety).
