Webby Wednesday: BettyShmetty Giveaway and Discount!

You got up this morning and looked at the calendar.  "Wednesday..." you mumbled.  Sigh.  Sigh because dweej used to do her snazzy Webby Wednesday posts.  Sigh because you like winning things and getting discounts on stuff and she has been letting you down.  "Give me my Webby Wednesday!" you demand.  Well mope no more, dear readers, because  (cue conga line music) a new Etsy store with a new giveaway is here for your Wednesday enjoyment!

Here's the part where I'm supposed to start talking about the store, but I just have to get right to the part about Diana.  Diana is the queen of BettyShmetty the etsy shop AND BettyShmetty the awesome blog and she is absolutely funny and smart and sweet and wonderful to know.  We "met" when she started reading our silly move-across-the-country story and when she mentioned that she had a few traveling stories she could tell I says to her I says "By golly, you should tell that tale" to which she replied "Okay, maybe I will".  And then she did.

If you have ever, ever started to feel sorry for yourself because of the weird or dysfunctional or unpleasant or shocking childhood you had, you MUST read her 4 part series "On The Road Again." (part 1, part 2, part 3, & part 4).  It reads like a script to the next Oscar-winning, box office-busting movie but it is all true.  She is such a testament to the tenacity of the human spirit.  She will make you say "If Diana can accomplish all of THIS after enduring all of THAT, then surely I can manage to complete that project that was intended as a gift for the holiday 2007 season."  She simply boggles my mind with her gratitude and positivity and good humor.

Okay, so awesome lady survives insane childhood, becomes an interior designer then police officer.  Also gets married and has two boys and also...ALSO starts snazzy vintage goods shop on etsy.  Here's a little excerpt from her profile:

"I have always loved 'old stuff'.  The more dinged up and dented something is, the better I like it. This store gives me an outlet for my passion...thrifting, junking, antiquing, trash picking...whatever you want to call it, I love doing it. Now I can share what I lovingly collect with all of you!"

From dishes to accessories, clothing to books, you never know just what you'll find.  It's like a treasure hunt in your pajamas!  What's that?  You mean you sometimes get dressed even if you're going to be home all day?  Wait...you USUALLY get dressed even if you're going to be home all day?  Oh no.  This will never do.  We are gonna need to make some changes around here.  Maybe some new pajamas will keep you in them longer?

Okay, sorry...back to BettyShmetty.

Here is the part where one person WINS something and every person gets a BIG, FAT discount.

Winning!

Discounts!

My favorite words.

Let's take a gander at a photo and description of the adorable, handmade cupcake stand that you could win...

What a lovely table you can set with this pretty, feminine piece!  This can be used as a serving piece for parties or on display as part of your decor.  I can also picture using this tray to hold jewelry...earrings and rings in the little cups on the top plate and maybe chunky bracelets on the bottom plate...use your imagination!

After finding two beautiful floral plates while scouring through stacks of china, I made this one-of-a-kind shabby and chic cupcake stand.  The top layer is actually a deviled-egg plate with pretty pink roses and little blue and yellow wildflowers.  The bottom plate has pink and purple flowers all over and a scalloped edge.  The plates are held together with a metal rod that passes through each plate to hold it securely.  These beautiful plates and the metal rods holding them are vintage pieces.

There are small imperfections but hese imperfections in no way affect the functionality or beauty of the finished product.  The bottom plate appears to have been made by hand and is not perfectly flat all around (very slightly wavy, but does not wobble at all).  My son has pointed out, and I can also see, that because of the slightly imperfect bottom plate, the top plate sits at a very slight angle and looks the tiniest bit crooked when you look at it straight on at eye level.  Still, I think the imperfections add to the charm of the piece!

The dimensions of this item are approximately 13.5 inches wide by about 10 inches high.

  2. I have to say I LOVE the green wig case, and only because my mother had that exact case (complete with the styrofoam head!) in her bedroom when I was little. She used it for her 1 big "hairpiece" (nevah call it a "wig", dahling!) and her 2 smaller "hairpieces". This etsy shop is such a cool idea!

  9. Dweej, this morning when I got up I actually said "Thursday" because I got up at 3:00 AM to see the Perseid/St. Lawrence's Tears meteor shower, which was covered by fog and 2 very bright farm lights from the neighbors, and then went back to bed, and actually thought that I had already DONE Wednesday. Anyway, great post,as always.

  11. Funny story about her Out On A Limb necklace... last week hubs and I were watching Rizzoli and Isles (Klout sent me season one) and I was stalking my favorite etsy shops (this one!). So here I am watching a murder mystery cop show... and up pops this random necklace full of limbs. I chuckled and made Tom look at it, to which he gave me a weird and horrified look, and I just said 'I like it'. Meanwhile the cops are finding body parts in the woods on TV. Random, huh?

  12. I love Betty! That Out On a Limb necklace is totally creepy. I kind of like it. I would wear that to work and creep out my coworkers.

Also, who are these people who get dressed when they aren't planning to leave the house OR even when they aren't going anywhere important? Once my pajama jeans come in the mail I'm not even getting dressed to go to work anymore.

  18. Someone beat me to it, but I love the vintage purple teacup. I'm obsessed with teacups. Why don't we all use teacups anymore anyways?

  19. The green snakeskin purse, of course!

I think the top plate is meant to hold deviled eggs, not cupcakes (or maybe egg shaped cupcakes...)
