But insteeeeeeeeeeead.......
We got goats.
Yes, goats. Two of them! With the hooves and the horns and the tiny teeth and the hilarious pointy tails? And the eating of the underbrush and the making of the milk? Yep, that's the kind. They're very insecurely "penned" up in our barn right now while hubby makes a more secure enclosure. So the girls have been
And do you know how said goats GOT to this here casita?
In a minivan.
I am not joking. Not even one tiny little bit. Witness evidence....
Holy cow, you guys. We have two goats in our barn right now.
Surprise!
Hello!!?? How else would you transport goats? Of course, they rode in the mini van. Everything goes in the van, why not a goat or two.
ReplyDeleteI mean, why else would they make the trunk like a little bucket if not to catch errant goat poo-lets?
DeleteGoats are great! They are tricky though - my aunt got penned into the outhouse by their pet goat when she was a little girl.
ReplyDeleteThey've already tried getting to the bag of goat food through the makeshift pen sides. Sneaky!
DeleteLOVE Tommy's face in that second picture. "Yup. I'm pulling a goat out of my minivan. Honestly? Not the weirdest thing I've ever done. *sigh*"
ReplyDeleteRight. Second picture featuring TOMMY. Clearly, he's not IN the second second picture.
ReplyDeleteDetails schmetails! I love it too :)
DeleteSo you're going to keep them?
ReplyDeleteLove it! We had all sorts of animals growing up...seriously, from parakeets to Shetland ponies...looking back now, it was one crazy feat, but also such a great experience. How fun for you and your kids! (get it...kids??) The only thing I remember of goats are the ones my aunt owned...she caught them on top of her car eating at the ceiling. Let's hope there's no car-nivores inside those little guys :) Ok, seriously, I am done...and quite obviously need a nap.
ReplyDeleteSigh.... My day just got infinitely better, Dweej! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI *adore* the tiny little harness!
ReplyDeleteThey are great climbers, and will get their horns stuck in the fence just long enough for you to don all your "going outside" layers and make your way to the fence. Then they'll freak out enough to get loose without your help. Ahh, goats...
ReplyDeleteI'm still lovin' the beach chairs, even covered with snow; let's hope the goaties don't eat them before Spring arrives.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the smiles!
I meant to say something about those chairs still being there. The dogs still jump over them when they're playing, so we leave them out even in the winter. Aren't we such hillbillies????
DeleteI want a goat! You are totally stealing my dream right now! :)
ReplyDeleteYou should totally get one when you move here! There's a Taggenburg breeder in Hastings and a pygmy goat farm right around the corner from us.
DeleteI have some convincing to do with the husband. I will be happy if he will let me get chickens to start. ;)
DeleteOkay, yeah, the chickens are WAY easier than the goats. I can attest to that. Gotta ease him in.... :)
DeleteOh and I can teach you to make soap with your goat milk too. Well, actually I haven't made "goat milk" soap persay but I HAVE made soap and I know if you put goat milk in it, it will be all gentle and creamy and wonderful so there you go!
DeleteDwija, are you going to learn to make my favorite thing in the whole wide world... cheese???? Jealous if you are!
ReplyDeleteI do believe my husband will be the cheese master (as he is the boss of everything else in the kitchen)!
DeleteIt's like you live in the Little House on the Prairie. Except in Michigan. With goats.
DeleteI KNOW! So exciting.
DeleteOMG! that's nuts! and awesome! and your coolness factor has reached its maximum!
ReplyDeleteWe have turned the crazy up to 11!
DeleteOh my goodness! Love it! :)
ReplyDeleteWhy am I not surprised? :)
ReplyDeletewhat does one do with a goat?
ReplyDeleteOne breeds it then milks it while also using it to clear the brush all around the back and sides of their property. And as entertainment/exercise for your herding dogs, their value cannot be underestimated! :)
DeleteWow! Are you guys the most spontaneous family I have ever seen? You just might be! Awesome goats! :)
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Have fun with your new pals!
ReplyDeleteWell the Gospel reading today was about separating the sheep from the goats and I guess I kept waiting for you to tell us something about that until I saw the goats actually being taken out of the van. All the comments are as entertaining as the blog. You crack me up.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteMy husband had a goat when he was a kid (sorry, I had to). Oh the stories. Congrats on your goats. There was a herd of goats at the monastery I visited last week and I got some really sweet pictures...the babies were so cute! You need a herd!!
ReplyDeleteIf we can get them in a good condition to breed, I think we might just make our own herd! :)
DeleteYou seriously have the most interesting life. I'm deathly boring by comparison.
ReplyDeleteOh my god, awesome! Are you going to start making goat cheese? Or are they more lawn mowers? Or both?
ReplyDeleteI want goats!!! Baby goats are especially adorable! Congrats on your new additions :)
ReplyDeleteGoats always make me think of that children's fairy tale, or whatever it is, The Three Billy Goats Gruff. I would advise watching for trolls under bridges.
