Michigan is Drunk- Theme Thursday {phfr}

hit with a little cross processing in Picasa

Yesterday morning, a little mist hung over the woods outside the back gate.
I'm linking this picture up with Clan Donaldson's first installment of Theme Thursday- this week's challenge was Sun Flare/Haze.  Good thing we had some fog because they ain't no sun 'round these parts right now.

EDIT: Well lookie here!  The  sun decided to make a super quick appearance today after all and I. Was. READY.

It's working!  The boy!  He can read!  I'm not ruining him after all!

{funny}
The Three Kings brought us this fancy little archaeologist kit (I'm pretty sure they found it on clearance at Meijer a few days after Christmas).  Last night the kids set to work on discovering their discoveries.

Cecilia: I know what I'm doing!  I don't need any of your tips and tricks!

Lizzy: Hahahahaha!

Paul: Not impressed

Go home, Michigan.  You are drunk.

  4. Idk if you saw my instagram (AGAIN!) today, but apparently you traded with Tucson because it dropped below freezing (AGAIN!) last night, and my phone said it was 34, but I grew up in Upstate NY and I know below freezing when I feel it, and at 7:30 AM it was no warmer than 31 outside.

    So maybe Tucson and Michigan got schwastey-faced together and they accidentally took home the wrong weather.

    Or something.

  5. I grew up in Michigan and I can still remember thinking it was cool that my wet hair would freeze into little icicles as I waited for the bus. I was so dumb. Anyway, nice shot of the gate it reminds me of a Thomas Hardy Poem called "The Darkling Thrush."

    I leant upon a coppice gate
    When Frost was spectre-grey,
    And Winter's dregs made desolate
    The weakening eye of day.
    The tangled bine-stems scored the sky
    Like strings of broken lyres,
    And all mankind that haunted nigh
    Had sought their household fires.

    And it goes on from there...

  13. Love your misty morning and your little archeologists. And hey, looks like it's Blogger that's drunk this morning, eating comments and multiplying comments.

  14. I would title this post "Homeschool Dreams." That archeologist kit looks swell.

  15. I love the misty morning picture. I'm envious that your 5 year old is reading, and mine is currently wearing goggles to unload the dishwasher whilst picking his nose. Who are Three Kings? The whole country is drunk- my temps look just like yours.

    This comment brought to you courtesy someone who desperately needs coffee.

  16. Michigan must be like Kansas - it was 70 degrees on Monday and then it snowed about an inch on Tuesday with the high in the 20's - gotta love it!

  17. I miss that about MI. Always dressing in layers. At least you get a break from the cold every couple of hours!

  19. LOVE that photo! Is it weird that I was tempted to make it my desktop wallpaper? It's just so darn rustic and pretty!

  22. Can I just say how glad I am that you spell Cecilia correctly? People keep spelling my Cecilia's name as "Cecelia" and it drives me nuts - we are not in the UK, people!!!

  27. The first one is very pretty.

    we got that archeologist kit last year as a gift. I thought, who would buy this? Nothing but a pile of dirt! it was too messy for me. Sorry. Looks like your kids liked it though. :)

    1. If it had not been on clearance, there is no WAY that Melchior would have bought it!

  28. When my kids learned to read I had such an overwhelming gratitude mixed with a sure knowledge that I truly had not much to do with it.
    We had some crazy weather swings here too -- I think of it as moodiness, but I guess it could be tippling :)
