41(!) week belly

Later I'm going to be posting a super quick giveaway of Leila's new book The Little Oratory bundled together with Father of the Family for Father's Day (it'll close on the 10th so there will be time for it to get to you) but first lemme get the not-so-important bizniss of the prominent potentially 41 week belleh out of the way, especially for any of you wishing/hoping/praying that he has already made his exit after Tuesday night's adventure of badness.

(hint: no)

Of course I gotta put in my disclaimer that MAYBE I am only 39 weeks, and after all this back and forth with modern technology and measuring tapes trying to tell me that women are too dumb to understand how their bodies work that my dates were the right ones all along, ohmygoshshootme.  Once he arrives, if he is mucho larger than all my other kids, we will know that he was just really stubborn and comfortable and late.  If, on the other hand, he weighs in the high 7s/low 8s, we will know that ultrasounds best shut they mouths in the presence of a woman who knows NFP.  Boom.

  1. I have exactly the same problem as you. Ultrasound people keep telling me the baby HAS to be a week older than he is, but my charting says NOT POSSIBLE. ah well. I hope yours (and mine!) will be out soon anyway xx

  3. If it makes you feel better, you really don't look that big for 41 weeks at all! And you are all baby. I think he or she just did all the growing a month ago and is now just chillin :)

  7. Once you invite technology to the party they bring along intervention, skepticism and a bunch of other party-poopers. Show them who's the hostess with the mostest.

  8. My doctors love to change my due dates around based on silly ultrasounds and my last period and such and I always insist that I KNOW my due date. I think all medical professionals should bow down to the almighty nfp chart, it's always right.

Funny story, my chart had clear signs of hashimotos thyroitis and my docs kept saying "nah, your tsh levels are normal range'. Until after 4 years of arguing one tested my antibodies. Surprise surprise, my charts were correct and I came up with 1900+ antibodies against my thyroid when it should be <25. So yeah, a woman's body just knows..

For what it's worth you look fantastic!

  11. I want you to be right for you dates...so then the baby could come today and be sorta early?? Anyway, thinking of you, the last days are ridiculously ridiculous and feel like years...I know...

  12. I just love the look on your face. Still praying for you during my nightly insomnia episodes!

  13. I'm being totally honest when I say that your belly doesn't look like it has changed too much since last week. And you look still look beautiful!!

Plus, won't you feel super vindicated if your dates turn out to be the right dates and you win the ultrasound smack down?! Victory will be thine!! That happened to me with #4, and I'm still riding the high of my superiority over a machine. ha! ;-)

  14. Beautiful!
Praying Mr. Pointy Bird comes out soon to check out life on the outside!

  15. I think you actually look a little smaller and rounder in that picture - he's definitely dropped down. I'm guessing your dates are correct - if you're really tracking it's hard to be wrong - I used to tell my OB that I knew EXACTLY what day I got pregnant, but she always shook her head and went back to first day of last period. Not accurate, people. And neither is the arbitrary "40 weeks".

  16. If it's any consolation, I dont think you look any bigger than last week.

  17. You look more beautiful every week. Seriously. But I'm not suggesting that you grow this baby for the rest of your life, because you're plenty beautiful right this minute. Right? Of course right.

  18. That last sentence with the "boom". LOL!!!! You look AWESOME!

  19. If baby is bigger than a low 8 pounds, it doesn't necessarily mean that your date was wrong and he was overdue. My first three children were 7lb10oz, 8lb3oz, 8lb4oz...all between 8 days early and 5 days past due. BUT, my fourth child was 9lb8oz! She was born the morning after her due date (I was in labor on my due date).

    1. Have to second this. My first baby was a reasonable 7lb6oz and my two after that? 9lb6oz & 9lb3oz! WHAT! All born within 4 days of their due dates (my last one was even two days "early").

You look gorge. And are glowing!

    2. Yep, that was me too! My girls were all between 7 lbs 10 ozs and 8 lbs, all born in the 39th week (well, except the 8 lb-er, she was born in the 38th) before their due dates. My boy came the day the ultrasound said, which I know that I know that I KNOW was at least a week early, and he was 9 lbs 5 ozs. I think some babies just get the grow gene more than others!! Praying for you, Dwija!

  20. Ok, I used to be a nursery nurse! So, late baby is...long and skinny (though sometimes that's just genetics), little to no vernix, and skin that is peely and cracked from little to no vernix, and they can often tell by looking at the placenta that it has started to suffer...I had this happen with my second child...I had been TTC and had very accurate charts to prove my due date, but the docs still insisted their date was right because my baby was big. When he was born (my water broke on my original due date), they still said they thought their date was right. Sigh.

  21. Due dates are estimates. People should trust mamas more and relax about numbers unless something is contraindicated. Your baby knows what's going on. Birth is not a math problem but a journey. You look so lovely. :)

  22. Oh, I was really hoping to see his precious little face on your blog! Hopefully, it won't be too much longer. I'll be 39 weeks on Monday...so maybe our baby boys will be born the same day! Praying for you and a safe delivery.

  23. You have got to be the prettiest 41/39 week pregnant lady ever! Seriously! Hang in there! (Can I put more exclamation points in here?!) :)

  24. Second child had lots of extra ultrasounds courtesy of my body's craziness, and everyone kept saying that the baby was about 7.5 lbs even though we were only 37 weeks along. He was born via early induction due to high blood pressure (long story, not pretty) and they announce cheerfully that he weighs 5lbs 7ozs! HUH?! No, no, I tell them, you mean 7lbs 5ozs. Nope. Then the nurse says, maybe this explains it, and holds up the biggest infant foot I've ever seen. She tells me his foot is so big, it won't fit in the box on the form she's got! It had skewed all measurements and blow up his expected weight numbers.
Hang in there! We're still praying over here and awaiting happy news whenever it comes!

  25. Def feeling the "you knew right all along" mode of thinking here...but that's just because I never doubted you! You look great. Hang in! :)

  26. Always go with YOUR chart, mama, not the fancy ultrasound. I'm placing my bet that you were right all along. You look absolutely beautiful, by the way!

  27. I loved your last paragraph. I'm going through this right now - I'm 26 weeks pregnant according to my charts, but the ultrasound has me almost 2 weeks ahead so they want to change my due date. But it'd be pretty impossible that'd I'd be off that much. I'd just rather have people focus on the fact it is his head measuring 2 weeks ahead...just like his sister's did (ie, the crazy birth with a 'stuck' baby and a c-section)!

  28. I just had my #8 2 weeks ago and he was 10 days early. He was little - under 7 pounds - and we've had feeding issue upon feeding issue. Hoping that you do have a nice big baby who's ready to eat like a horse! :-)

  29. I think it's crazy-awesome how many people are excited for you! Count me as one of them!

  30. Daaaaaang, girl. I say it again. I have no idea how you're still standing (let alone walking and doing things) right now. God bless you. And that baby.

  31. My ultrasound kept saying my baby girl was a week YOUNGER. It was so frustrating because there was.no.possible.way. She was born at 39 weeks, 2 days - "earlier" than her brother and all her cousins and weighing much smaller than her cousins or brother ever have. I wasn't suprised at all when my water broke at 39 weeks, 1 day because she was really more like 40 weeks exactly and just a petite baby.
