What I Remember

12 years ago tonight, I don't remember what I wore.
12 years ago tonight, I can barely remember who was there.
12 years ago tonight, that old life ended and this new one began.

What I do remember...

Walking to the baptismal font at the Chapel of the Incarnation.

via
The soft glow of the lights.  And candles.

Sweet, smiles all around me- now my sisters and my brothers

But mostly the cool water.

That cool water, poured over my face, mixed with my hot tears.

That's what I remember.

Now I'm wondering about and praying for and cheering on every person whose hot tears mixed with that cold water tonight.

Hallelujah!  He is risen!

  1. Dwija - what a wonderful memory! I am looking forward to seeing two more sisters being baptized tonight at the Vigil, and to seeing that light shining in their eyes - there is nothing like it! Happy Anniversary, happy, happy Easter! Christ is Risen! Glorify Him!

  2. Love it! I remember that humble church with the turquoise tin roof, and how hot it was in there, despite the air conditioners humming in the background, since Easter was late that year, and it was Mississippi. I remember how the felt stole they put around me felt, tacky and regal at the same time.
I remember walking across the street afterward, holding Ken's hand as we went to the neighbor's house to pick up the kids, and the night was more beautiful than any other night I'd ever lived through.

    Happy, happy Easter!

  3. Awwww, so glad you came and stayed!! My sister-in-law just got her First Communion and Confirmation last night.

This morning I saw a newly Baptized adult from our parish sitting in the pew in front of me (yes, she came to Mass again this morning) silently crying and smiling before Mass began. I can't even begin to imagine her joy...but you can!!
