I cleaned stuff so you could win $100

Oh my gosh.  You guys.  Moving is insane.  Who invented "moving" anyway?  And it's not all the stuff you're thinking about, like the paperwork and the endless phone calls and the putting of each individual glass from your kitchen into cardboard boxes.  Well yeah, it's all that.  But it's not JUST all that.  It's the cleaning!  Holy.  Mackerel.

The cleaning.

I am in super-duper-clean-all-the-things-non-stop mode these days.  The regular house things, yes, but also the chil'rens.  Because kids gotta be kids, you know?  The syrup and the dirt and the dog hair.  Have fun.  Be happy.  But mama can't have the syrup and the dirt and the dog hair all over her freshly painted, pristine wall of pristine-ness, no she cannot.

And let's not forget the beginning of cold and flu season!  No, no, no.  Between carting the littles to co-op, to rehearsals to drop off and pick up the big kids, to the barn for riding lessons and on any number of errands in between, we are bound to be picking up our share of germs 'round here.

Anyway, needless to say I was legitimately stoked a few weeks ago when I found out that Babyganics wanted me to try their non-toxic cleaning products.  And other things too!  But I didn't even realize that, the thing about the other things, until I had already said yes because NON-TOXIC CLEANING PRODUCTS.

Did I mention cleaning products?  For free?  And yes, other things too.
First the haul, from left to right:

face, hand & baby wipes (unscented)
toy & highchair cleaner spray (unscented)
foaming dish & bottle soap (citrus)
foaming hand sanitizer (mandarin)
moisturizing baby lotion (chamomile verbena)

Right after I snapped the photo above, Tommy started a teeny tiny bit hyperventilating about a diaper "situation" he had just discovered.  So you know what I did?  I grabbed that package of wipes right out of my snazzy set-up and tossed it over to him so we could put them to the real test pronto.

The way the package opens is excellent.  The little sticky flap that usually sticks to the wipe and makes you say bad words as you try to hold two legs with one hand and extract the wipe with the other?  Yeah, there's none of that here.  The flap stays flat open.  Whoever designed that should get a prize.
As for cleaning, they did a good job.  They don't have that slimy texture you find with some wipes or the thin fabric feeling of others (those always start shredding into little pieces when I used them, you know?).

What can I say?  I think about baby wipes a lot.  Anyway, I was really impressed.  They're also good for face and hands and gentle enough for eczema prone skin, which is great because clean all the things!!!!

Now, I know the spray cleaner says "toy and highchair" but I went ahead and used it all over my kitchen.  The counters, the front of the oven, the top of the coffee maker.  Then I used it in all sorts of other places around the house.  It doesn't smell like anything and you don't have to rinse it off (you just wipe it dry) and if someone were to come and lick the countertop (hey, I wouldn't put it past them) they'd be totally not poisoned because non-toxic.  Sweet.
Added bonus: when little hands want to help, you don't have to turn them away.  Many levels of win.

Let's move on to our first scented item, shall we?  This is the foaming dish & bottle soap in the citrus scent.
I totally saved the Pyrex pan from making Dutch baby pancakes for dinner (because I'm all about that health, 'bout that health...) so I could hand wash it with this soap for the purposes of reviewing it fo-o-or youuuuuuu (thanks, Elmo). Cecilia, the most sensitive nosed of my children, liked the way it smelled and my hands felt not at all dry and scaly when I was finished.

And a little by accident I also discovered that this soap makes GREAT bubbles, so for a few minutes I forgot that I'm not really "The Fun Mom" and I blew totally non-toxic bubbles in my kitchen with two of the above-mentioned children and it was pretty awesome.

Bloodhound Ceci gave an enthusiastic thumbs up for the smell of the hand-sanitizer and I'm giving another one for the fact that it's alcohol free.  I actually got a three-pack of 50 ml travel sizes of this so I could carry one in my purse, put one in the car, and stash one with the diapering crate that I keep in the living room.
It really does absorb right in and your hands don't feel dry or overly fragranced.  I can't deal with that fruity mcfruiterson stuff, y'all.  Cannot deal.  This is not like that.  It's truly pleasant to use.

And finally, my favorite thing of all!  Yes, I was surprised, what with my obsession with cleaning stuff these days and all that.  But seriously this lotion.  First of all, it smells really nice.  Not perfume nice but kind of herbishy nice.  Does that make sense?  Sort of like...herbal tea or something.
Clearly a scent-describer I am not.  Is there a word for that?  Olfactoryer?  Anyway.  A baby lotioner I can be as long as the lotion is this.  Everyone's skin always starts to get really dry in the winter once we're running the heater all dagblam day long, too, and I know we will all happily use this lotion.  It feels great, smells great, and lasts a long time. Babyganics moisturizing baby lotion: not just for babies anymore.  Zomg, just thought of that all by myself.  That should totally be their new slogan!

Although this post is sponsored, all opinions are my own.  They're compensating me because dang, this took a long time to put together!  But I only agreed to do it because I think these products are worth it. Bueno?  Bueno.

  1. So, weirdly, I like looking at and buying cleaning supplies, but I'm awful at using them! I like how you used each thing for more than its prescribed purpose. Multipurpose cleaning products for the win!

  4. I'm with Sarah, the herbal lotion and baby wipes are what caught my eye. My daughter has wicked eczema so I'm always on the lookout for lotion that keeps her skin from drying out but also is basically no more harmful than water because the slightest chemical additive makes the eczema worse instead of better. And my husband HATES anything floral-y scented, so herbal is definitely a win here too.

  5. Dish soap - my 4 year old actually enjoys "doing the dishes" (=putting hands in bubbles and pouring soapy water back and forth into cups). Would be nice to have a more natural dish soap.

  6. We have some super sensitive smellers in our house. So I am eyeing the cleaning spray. Do you think it would clean grimy fingerprints off of fridges or stainless steel??

    1. I used it on the front of my oven and the front of my dishwasher! Not stainless, but still gross and it worked :)

  10. I like the Babyganics sunscreen and would definitely like to try the lotion. But also the cleaner and the dish and bottle soap. I like cleaning things too, and I totally get in that mode when we move! Not that we ever plan to move again at the moment, but with a new baby scheduled to arrive in a few short months, I'm sure I'll be in clean-all-the-things mode pretty soon anyway. :)

  11. Intrigued but is it really better than cheap-o vinegar?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You know, I'm not sure which is better, but I do know that if my big kids use the wrong ration of vinegar + water, there is a distinct "fish and chips restaurant" fragrance hanging about my house, whereas the Babyganics unscented spray is truly smell-free.

  21. Okay, my last comment seems to have been swallowed--I'm not trying to cheat by posting again!

The lotion sounds the best to me, although the wipes also sound good. How effective is the cleaner? I've been using Freshana Eezee and Maxana (organic and microencapsulating) on tough stuff, which has been really good. I use Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day for more benign cleaning.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The toy & highchair cleaner spray is just what I've been looking for! We definitely have a counter-licking kiddo over here... If he could a) not poison himself and b) help clean up when he makes sticky messes all over the place, that would be amazing.

  44. Seriously not perfumey? Or overwhelming? Because I ***so much*** dislike those. I would prefer all cleaning products to be unscented. Every one of them. And I think people who wear perfume in church should be forced to smell cow poop for an hour, even though I think cow poop smells way better than perfume. Seriously.

  67. My first thought - the hand sanitizer! I use it all the time...we have a mega bulk size one on the changing table (that has lasted all 14 months of my son's life so far and is still going strong), but I cringe every time I use it. But after hearing about the spray cleaner...well, I'm reminded that I never clean his toys and only wipe off his highchair with a wet paper towel... :-/ Sounds like they are both worry-free products! I worry enough on my own without thinking about cleaning products, toxins and the like!

    ReplyDelete
  68. I really would like to try the baby lotion (for the whole family) as we too are eczema prone and I have a hard time finding lotion we can use. Thanks for the chance to win!

There was a sale on their wipes somewhere (Babies R Us maybe?) a few weeks back and our newbie is due any day, so I picked up a few packs and have pulled a few out for random wipe-downs - looking forward to testing them on "the real deal" (you know you're a seasoned mom when you're looking forward to poopy-diaper-product-testing!) - however I didn't realize they had cleaning products too. I'd be up for the lotion for winter as well. Thanks for sharing your tips!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Lotion! I'm always looking for lotions that aren't greasy but actually work. And nice smelling is always nice. Non-toxic is awesome! (You laugh...but have you read the ingredient list on some lotions lately? *shudder*

    ReplyDelete
  84. I'd totally go for the wipes - we use cloth but sometimes a pack of disposable wipes sneaks into the rotation and it's kind of lovely actually having something that's *already* wet available! I used to pre-wet our cloth wipes and fold them inside a disposable wipes container... Then we had three more kids, and now they just end up in a clump on the changing table while I run to the bathroom to get them wet before someone climbs off the changing table! Really good mom, right here ;)

  85. I'm most interested in the hand sanitizer since I am allergic to alcohol and it can be hard to find non-alcohol sanitizer! And also the baby wipes for upcoming baby #2. I have tried their sunscreen and really liked it!

  115. Yeah, so glad I'm not the only one who skips a step in the diaper changing process and just uses hand sanitizer. It'd be great to have one that doesn't dry out my hands this coming winter though!

  128. I enjoy how you speak my language. All your reviews of things? Totally what I need to know, dude. I freakin frackin hate getting my nails caught in the flap thing-y that keeps the baby wipes from GOING INTO MY HANDS so I can WIPE ALL THE POOP. Seriously. Also, I super hate the way most cleaning products, lotions, and hand sanitizers smell (like would rather just wipe my hands on my jeans or ask the neighbor's dog to lick them than put hand sanitizer on), so if your kiddos think it isn't stinky, I'm sold!! Thanks, Dwija for the giveaway!

  141. Hmmm....I had a "fire drill" showing yesterday (1.5 hour notice, 5 baskets of clean laundry shoved into a van, and much frantic cleaning of all the things...then they had to reschedule), so my main question is this: does the dish soap smells nice enough to serve double duty as a room fragrance for last-minute showings? Ack! :) --Meredith P.
