My poor, miserable, overworked children. Sigh. A huge box of product from
Catholic Child arrived yesterday and they have to
play with the toys and
read the books and tell me what they think and oh my goodness, can you imagine how hard their lives are?
 |
Paul, the litmus test for whether or not a toy is frustrating. This one passed! |
So that means I am writing catalog copy right now and not so much with the blog copy, which means
you (don't you feel lucky?) get to look at a bunch of photos. Yippee!
 |
Check out this enormous tree! I do make them do embarrassing things in public. |
 |
Paul and Ceci were 'driving' in this special car. When I told them to look at the camera, this is what I got. Typical! |
 |
She is such a character, that baby. Ready to go out and feed the chickens in mommy's boots. |
 |
Did I mention that the girls secretly did school work last Saturday at the museum? Note clipboard of scavenger hunt items and questions. Berry, berry schneeky! |
 |
Check it out...apples and crabapples and wild grapes from our own backyard! |
 |
Now we have a sea of apples. What should we do with them? Give me your ideas! |
Well, I for one loved the pictures! Lucky you for all the apples! ideas: apple turnovers, apple pie, apple crisp, baked apples, apple cake, applesauce, apple butter... I'm sure you already thought of those things! My father-in-law made apple and sausage dressing/stuffing last year, it was good (he got the recipe somewhere online). Ok, that's all! Hope y'all have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteApplesauce, very kid friendly to make and eat.
ReplyDeleteAs far as being mocked by the little drivers, perhaps you should stop cutting off imaginary drivers by jumping in front of them? Hm??
In addition to the other apple suggestions, chop a few apples and sautee them with some nuts and cranberries(can use frozen or dried ones), some cinnamon and optional some real maple syrup or sugar. My family loves this as it is, on top of oatmeal, or over pancakes. Can use pears too. Let me know if you try it!
ReplyDeleteCrockpot apple butter. Super easy, good for "not quite perfect" apples, and freezes well.
ReplyDeleteI second the apple butter idea. Mmmmm...so good on toast!
ReplyDeleteI thought crabapples were poisonous?
ReplyDeleteThey are not poisonous in and of themselves. They have a high acid content so if you eat enough of them uncooked, you will get a tummy ache, but technically a crab apple is just an apple that's under 2" in diameter.
ReplyDeleteYou have quite a few suggestions, but I thought I'd throw mine in, too. Applesauce is easy and a Sauce Master makes it REALLY easy. If the apples are nice and sweet, you could freeze them in freezer bags...no prep other than peel, core, slice or cube, and bag 'em up. Apple Butter is a bit labor intensive. I just made some a week ago. You need a crock pot to let it cook down, and remember apple butter starts with applesauce. You can make crabapple jelly out of the crabby apples. See the tips over at http://pickyourown.org/allaboutcanning.htm
ReplyDeleteGood Luck!
If you really want to hearken back to the old days you could have Paul throw them at the girls. It could get painful, but nostalgia has it downsides.
ReplyDeleteWe used to eat crab apples growing up, a little tart but no one died. I would go with a crock pot apple sauce. Super easy if I had apples I would try it.
ReplyDeleteah! Is Cecilia really wearing those boots?
ReplyDeletetoo cute. a framer.
Julia better do cute things like that or I might love her a little less.
I would go with applesauce. And apple bread. Freeze some for the cold winters to give you fall memories!
ReplyDeleteHappy to see the monkey jammies come around again! :)
ReplyDeleteApple butter!!! So yummy!
ReplyDeleteYou could dry them or make apple jelly or applesauce OR apple butter. If you wrap them individually in newspaper and store them someplace dark and cold, they'll keep for months.
ReplyDeleteCool pictures. Seems like your kids got an awesome package!

Love pictures!! I have a great recipe for apple bread, it's yummy!
ReplyDeleteI've never had apple bread, but it sounds delish! You should post a link :)
ReplyDeleteOkay y'all, I got my hands on Alison's apple bread recipe: http://www.mamawantsthis.com/2011/04/apple-bread/
ReplyDeleteSounds so awesome. I may be drooling on my own fingers while I'm typing this.

Applesauce! Yummy! Apple bread is wonderful too: Magnolia Bakery has a great recipe.
ReplyDeleteAwesome pics, and YAY for you writing a catalog copy!!
ReplyDeleteAs for the apples, we've been apple picking too and so far I've made apple crisp, apple bars, and more apple crisp...easy and delicious!
Cook them and make stewed apples. My kids love it. Peel, cut them up in slices, add some water and cook until tender. Add in some butter and vanilla until you like the taste. Easy and soooo good.
ReplyDeleteSome of those apples are so tiny they look like cherries. Cutest apples EVER!
ReplyDelete(I have no delicious apple recipes for you, although I AM very inspired to make apple bread now!)
Love the baby in boots!!
Dweej, I just want to buy an RV and drive it over to Michigan and camp out in your yard for a few months. You guys are always doing something exciting.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome that the kids get to be testers. What a perk!
And that baby in boots picture is my FAVORITE!
That picture of Ceci in your boots is awesome :) I love it and all the photos. Keep 'em coming if you're too busy to blog. Those kids will keep us happy!
