Pizza Recipe and Other Junk {7qt}

(1)
Do you know Jessica?  She blogs at Housewifespice.  At first I thought maybe she was anonymous, but I see her name right there on her sidebar so Imma risk it.  Anyway, you should read her blog and not just because she just sent me my very own (drumroll) 50mm lens. (insert jazz hands here)

Canon clickers in the house!
clearly a super camera-shy baby I've got

It's totally still cool to say "in the house, " right?

(4)
Remember yesterday's pizza pic?  Here, I'll remind you:

There were approximately 7 billion (mas o menos) requests for a how-to on that gorgeous looking specimen.

Step 1: shoot the finished product with a DSLR and a 50mm lens

Fine, I'll be real.  First, here is the super fast, last minute crust recipe I used:  haz click aqui por el recipe de crusto de pizza (multilingual takes today.  You're welcome).

(6)
For the toppings, I browned a half pound (?) of ground beef, an onion and a red bell pepper (both chopped) in olive oil.  Season the way you like it- I did salt, pepper, and garlic because I was also feeding toddlers and, well, ain't nobody got time fo' complaints about "green things in my pizza sauce".  Obvi you can pretty much use anything you have in your fridge for toppings.  I mean, have you SEEN the list of toppings at pizza places?  It's like "broccoli! grilled chicken!" and junk.

To assemble the pizza, I stretched the dough out onto the pizza stone (Tommy claims that you can use an unfinished saltillo tile if you want which he insists you can get really cheap at Home Depot in the desert of Southern California.  Isn't that super helpful?) and spread half a jar of regular Prego pasta sauce (I can feel your eye-ball darts of disapproval, pizza purists) onto it.

Then came the toppings followed by an entire bag of pre-shredded mozzarella cheese (they were on super sale the other day.  I bought 10 bags.  Literally.).  Bake according to the directions in that there crust recipe and VOILA.  Dinner prep that didn't make me cry.

Happy weekend, homeros.

  1. It's a beautiful pizza. Can I use the word "beautiful" to describe a pizza? Hah...I just did. Can you freeze bags of pre-shredded cheese? Or will you actually use 10 bags before they go bad?

    1. Yes, I froze them. Easy peasy. To defrost, I used the microwave on the defrost "fish" setting and randomly chose 0.3 lbs. It totally worked. Amazingly.

  2. That is the exact pizza crust recipe that I use, too. I love it! But we like super thin crust, so I use it to make two pizzas. Yum! That pizza is lovely. And such a great picture.

  3. First a big bag of clothes and now a LENS!!!!!! What the h-e-double-toothpicks do I need to do to get some swag up in here???????

I'm going to try that pizza...it looks delicious and the dough even sounds pretty easy. We'll see though. We've been taking advantage of Domino's cheap week night specials lately and it really doesn't get any easier than that!

  5. I'm surprised that you didn't use chopped broccoli actually.

  7. Yay for pizza dough that doesn't have to rise! We always eat late on pizza night because I never remember to start the dough on time.

And if you don't feel like browning the meat you can totally sprinkle it on raw and it will brown in the oven. One of our favs is ground beef, red onions and cherry tomatoes (they all go in uncooked and come out delicious!)...yay for less dirty pots and pans! :)

  9. I use Hunt's basil, garlic and oregano tomato sauce in the tiny can. One can ($.44) = one pizza!
